Default LS1/LS6 Timing Chain Damper

LS1/LS6 timing dampers

1. NOS piece from Katech
2. Trick Flow Adapter with LS2 damper

I didn't like either of the above options and decided to try and make my own. I have spent a great deal of time reverse engineering a LS2 damper and working with plastic companies to find a suitable materials. I have finally narrowed in on a design and material

You can follow some of my design stuff here -

Looks good.

Tell me, what is the long term "survivability" of the material being used? Is it safe to assume it's the same material that other components are made of and that also have to endure heat/oil/acids/detritus, etc found inside an operating engine?

The material is in the Nylon family so oils won't affect it. Heat shouldn't be an issue as the continuous operating temperature of the material is well above what an engine should be running at. After doing a bunch of research I've actually found where the same material was used for custom parts in race engines with great success. Extreme acids or bases may be an issue but if you have either in your engine the dampener is the last thing to worry about.

I should point out that the blue one in the picture is a prototype. The actual ones will most likely be tan.

The LS2 engines have them as OEM. Later LS engines had a different shoe type with a loaded spring that later became problematic.

I "THINK" it was a GM performance part and added as a race engine upgrade. Some blocks were machined for the dampener, some were not. My 02 ZO6 had the machined holes and I added the dampener.

There is an "LS2" version that is still in production. The only problem is the bolt holes don't line up for the earlier Gen III engines. There have been many attempts at making them but none have been successful or long lived.

The spring style one mentioned by Bill can be found below - I don't know much about them. I do know they wont fit a Gen III and the guys that have them pull them off and go with the traditional damper

Some of the attempts at making a Gen III dampener can be found here.

Hardware arrived last night... dampeners should be here in a couple weeks!

I spoke with the manufacturer last week and they had just received the material. My rep said they would be setting up this week and *should* be done by the end of the week. They quoted a three week lead time and Monday would have been three weeks from placement of the order.

I will try and give them a call on my lunch break and check in.

Just called them and it looks like parts are done and will ship today! I should have them by Tuesday. I'll check them out and hopefully be ready by end of next week.
