Sounds like the RCDLR module is not as dumb as everyone thinks and changing the BCM option actually switches something inside the RCDLR module as well.

With your experience, my guess would be that the IPC is somehow talking with the RCDLR module for the FOB and TPMS training menus and your new RFA module has had the TPMS part turned off hence the TPMS training menu option disappearing. The new RCDLR modules could be enabled by default which is why people get away with installing a brand new 01-04 module into an older car.

What happens if you drive the car. Do you get TPMS errors?

I recall someone else having the same issue but I don't recall the fix. It might have been fixed by replacing the RCDLR module.

I'm doubting a TechII will show you anything useful.

Isn't it fun trying to figure out what's happening when there is very little documentation around on how all the modules inter-communicate?

Talked to the place I got it from. He said it's possible a ZO6 one got mixed in. He's swapping it out for me. We'll see what happens......

I understand that, but the thinking is leaning towards the modules being not as dumb as we think they might be. If one was originally on a ZO6 couldn't it be possible that it won't even bother to look for TPMS and thus not let you into the menu?

Can you drive the car with the new module? I'm curious if it gives any TPMS errors or codes.

I'm still tidying up some other stuff right now, it's not road worthy as of now.

Can it idle. Mine will give TPMS errors if you leave it running for a bit without moving it.

It can, but I pulled the module and boxed it up soon as I got home. Just gonna try another for now.

CC is getting me a new piece out today, so I'm hoping by weeks end I'll have it. Sadly I work all weekend (Fri through Sun, 6A to 6P) but I'll at least be able to plug it in and see what it says one evening.

New module came in yesterday, didn't get a chance to test it until just now before heading to work. Fobs programmed and tire menu came right up.

I dunno, but it's working now.

Obviously it was the RFA but there are no differences in the Z and non Z RFAs.

Interesting result. It seems like turning off the TPMS for a Z06 affected the RCDLR module.

I'm wondering if there's something in the initial handshake between the RCDLR as new and the BCM......Like if the BCM has TPMS turned off it hard codes the RCDLR without it or something??

No, you can turn-on the TPMS in a Z06. I'm thinking the RCDLR is also set or the component that is actually set when that option is changed.

You'd need a TechII and a car with the TPMS option to run some tests to be more sure about what's going on.

ZO6 did not have TPMS from the factory and that feature was programed OFF in the BCM.

You can get the GM Tech2 and turn it ON (2001-2004 C5) and add sensors in the ZO6 rims. I added sensors to my 02 ZO6 shortly after purchase.

That being said, You can also turn the TPMS OFF in any 2001-2004 C5. It can NOT be changed in 97-2000 C5s

IF, you truly have a ZO6 BCM, you should be able to change the TPMS STATE (ON & OFF)

Bill, read the thread. It seems that if you turn off the TPMS in a 2001-2004 car and then try to use the RFA module in a 1997-2000 car then the TPMS is also turned off in the early car.

Usually not what is wanted, but it means it is possible to turn-off the TPMS in an early car.

I found this discussion very interesting and am glad it worked out. I have a 2004 C-5 and wanted to disable the TPMS completely and install an Orange Electronics System I have used in older Corvettes. The senders are made by Orange and are identical to Toyota. Orange has built a small readout that I have mounted on top of my inside rear view mirror. The read out continually shows both Tire Pressure and Tire Temperature. It also allows for readout per tire to change to red if over or under set temp or pressure. What I have discovered after going to several Corvette performance shops and being unable to turn TPMS off that in 2008 US-DOT made GM disable the DPMS on 2001 thru 2004 C-5's because they were delivered with Run Flat Tires. So to disable the DPMS the Tech 2 must still be using a pre 2008 software as all software updates have been changed to disregard this DPMS turn off. The local GM representative informed the 2 dealers I had contacted of this software change. I have not located a Tech2 without updated software so I am running new correct DPMS sensors in my C-5. Hope this helps any one who is having trouble turning off 2001-2004 DPMS. I spent a lot of time and money getting to this anomaly.

Bill, I'm Having this same issue and I'm on a second receiver (used)
I'm doing an upgrade from a 99 frc that has tpms but I', up grading to the 01-04 set up. I can get fob but no tpms. However, when I install the original 99 receiver I can get fob and tpms. I'm on my second 01-04 used receiver and probably gotten crap. what do you suggest? Would the above step help me? If so,I don't understand what I'm suppose to shorting?
Should I just purchase a new receiver, which I don't mind doing but hate to find out it's something else.
I've disconnected battery and made sure I have strong voltage. I've also checked fuse 27 and have power to the orange wire on the receiver connector in both ignition off and on.
figured out the shorting bar, removed ,found no corrosion, check serial cable for continuity back to receiver connector all good. Have code B2262,B2263,B2264,B2265unable to clear them. also had code Ui000H on BO-RFA but cleared it and has not reappeared.
