Fuel door actuator sticking- 98 Convertible
My fuel door actuator is consistsntlly sticking in the closed position, not allowing my fuel door to stay closed. I can manually reach in through the convertible top cover with a long screwdriver to push the plunger forward where the emergency fuel door cable attaches, opening the pin. I've read that the spring inside the component is most likely corroded causing it to fail. I want to replace the spring however I don't know if the left rear tire and wheel well shroud needs to be removed to gain access as I've read in several posts. One poster mentioned that it's not necessary to remove tire and wheel well shroud if it's a convertible but he didn't explain how to gain access to the component. Can anyone please advise. Thanks for the help

The small plunger that moves IN & OUT to lock and unlock the door is having an issue with the spring. The spring is rusted and most likely gone and the remainder is making the plunger stick.
Some people have replaced the spring with a hardware store spring.

IF you remove the wheel and wheel well/inner fender it would be a great time to insulate them... IT was WELL worth the time it took to do it on our vert... just a thought. Good luck

Can anyone tell me is it possible to get the release mechanism from the trunk area of the FRC? The panel(s) do not move about much...
