is it possible to change the main and rod bearings with the motor in the car

The back of the engine cradle would make it hard to get a torque wrench in there.

YES, but its a real PITA.

You have to drop the front cradle. We did it on my buddy's 2000 coupe. We measured the old bearings with plastigage and ALL of the Con rod bearings were way below spec. Just replacing the old with new bearings resolved his oil pressure issue and rod knock at cold start.

We just did the conrod bearings, His mains were fine!

I think I`m at about the same stage as the 2000 coupe. the motor is coming out this week. any bearing and oil pan gasket recomendations. anything else while it`s out

If it is going to be stock then OEM parts are good. Most of the gaskets I have seen are replicas of the OEM (metal with a rubber sealing material). There will be different opinions on bearings here (just like with tires, oil and spark plugs).
