Default Sudden strange electrical gremlins

I had my steering wheel swapped and a couple other maintenance items at my mechanic.

Now I have the following symptoms:

- car won't lock. Hitting lock on fob sets off alarm
- both turn signal indicators are fully on
- turn signals don't work. Turning them on makes the back turn signals go on solid, no blink
- dash sometimes blinks rapidly when turning headlights off

Any ideas? Mechanic says the horn pad did not sit right when reinstalling. Is that it?

Check to see if you are getting any trouble codes. Post what you find.

If this all started after the steering wheel was swapped, that would be a good place to start looking especially if it did not go back together correctly.

Did he REMOVE THE COLUMN from the car?

Sounds like the column MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH or the wiring in the column was damaged.

I agree.. Please read and post the DTC. If there are a TON of old DTCs, clear them ALL and them read them again after you turn the key to ON.

Use the internal DTC reader to retrieve the DTCs!

Column was not removed, but he did use a hammer to get the steering wheel off. He was worried that could damage the column electronics?

Will check and post DTC when home.

The proper way to remove the steering wheel is with a puller. If he didn't have the proper tools to do the job right he shouldn't have taken it on. If it was me, I'd look for a new mechanic.

HAMMER! There are no SMILIES for PACE PALM PLANT but,, If there were,, it would be HERE! "X"

First place too look is the multifunction switch. You may have more than one issue.

He did have a puller but it was on tight so hammer was used to tap it off.

These are the only codes. I also have one LED and one conventional bulb in my DRL's (he did that temporarily since one of the LED's was defective). Would that confuse the electronics?

The P codes are for the left and right front oxygen sensors so I don't think that is related.

I don't know what effect mixing a conventional bulb with LED bulbs. I've never used them. replace the bulb with the correct one and it's one thing you don't need to think about.

The B codes are left and right turn signal monitor faults.
The BCM is not sensing a voltage oscillation when the turn signal switch is is on. See if the DRL relays are switching when you select the right and left turn signal switch. Mini relays 38 and 40 in the Instrument Panel Electrical Center. Those relays are controlled by the BCM but if the BCM doesn't receive the input signal they will not work. With all the problems you are describing you may have pinched some wires or the multifunction switch is damaged. I don't have a handle on this yet but you need to start checking something. You could also start looking for some physical damage to the wiring or switch.

Fixed it. One of the LED tail lights went bad. Crazy that it caused so many other issues.
