Default 5.0 vs c5z question

Alright fellas. A guy I work with has a 13 5.0 with catless x pipe and flowmaster, bama tune, and boss intake manifold. He claims 430hp to the ground or more. Do those 5.0's really make that much hp? Now, where it's starting to get me questioning is his complete and utter assurance that he can wax my c5z. I've got intake, LG catless headers, b&b bullets, and a pro tune. I could be wrong here but is he full of S***? Or could I still run with him? I'd like to know an idea before any bets get made with him at the track. He also claims he beat a ZL1 but it didn't have DR's. Thanks!

He may have 430 at the flywheel.Your Z06 should be about 430 also at flywheel. He is carrying about 500 more lbs which should be the difference of about .5 tenths in a quarter mile. Here is link to 2013 5.0 specs.

Have any of you ran against a 5.0 in a z06? He feels so dang certain that he can evidently blow my doors off and I just don't see how with the few mods that he has. Maybe I'm just not giving the mustang the credit it deserves??

You'll rip his head off.

Those cars do make power, a buddy of mine does 430rwhp with bolt ons(no header). My Z at 393rwhp went around him and walked away on a roll.

Street tire vs street tire ...i went 12.2@116 to his 13.3@111. Not much of a race actually.

Gearing, weight and aero is a forgotten art with these fat pigs manufacturers are putting out today.

Tires, tires, tires. That being said, my buddy has a 5.0 mustang with nearly the same mods and the car is fast. He ran 12.3 1/4 at sea level.

I say the better driver wins. The 5.0 is no slouch and I am not a ford racing fan.

FYI after spending the last two years as a 5th gen Camaro owner I can say the ZL1 stock is pathetic on the drag strip. The LSA engine has great potential for 700rwhp plus without too many supporting mods...,but stock, it's SLOW in a drag race.

430whp sounds close to what he should be making. You should be able to pull him pretty good though.

I raced one with 410whp vs my exhaust, intake c5z and I destroyed it. Let me find the video.

Not sure if I just have a slow *** Z but the last time I went up against a 5.0 (mind you he did get a little bit of a head start) there was no catching him.... And I threw the hammer down, I was doing a buck 30 before I stopped trying and he was still pulling away. I don't wanna make no enemies here but I fell like I gotta call bs..... When I did catch that blue oval a few miles down the road he told me was only rockin headers. But it might just be me I guess, if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all

Either something is wrong with your car, you're a poor driver, or the 5.0 had a lot more than just headers.

Here is my race against a buddies 5.0.

You have to remember the C5Z is MUCH lighter, has better gearing, and better aerodynamics.

He's saying that he can get his car in the high 10's with the mods that he has. I want to call BS but that's why I asked if any all y'all have had any experience with these guys. In the 1/4 he said he ran an 11 something, and that was prior to his bama tune and boss intake manifold. So he's saying with that he could put it in the 10's with DR's. I just don't want to believe it..

Saying he can take a 430 whp car from what others are calling at the fastest a 12.6 car with a great driver, to a high 10... I almost spit my coffee out laughing so hard. YOu should ask the guy if he's ever really been in a no kidding 10 second car. I doubt he really has.

A 430 whp 5.0 is a high-mid 11 sec car on a dr good driver track prep.. 5.0's typically trap 118-121 or so at the power level in my area.

The car I owned prior to my Z06 was a 2011 Mustang GT with long tubes, off road x pipe, CAI and a Boss intake on an automatic went 11.89 @ 119 mph running a 275 MT drag radial.

I added a Circle D 5C torque converter and was running 11.50's.

Damn easy to run 11's in those cars.

My next question then is what should I expect to trap in my Z with my mods with or without DR's?

Given equal drivers and relatively similar power levels I give the advantage to the Z06 everytime. There is a guy at my church that has a 2012 5.0 its 100% stock. It does have the factory installed "track pack" it raced my brothers 100% stock 03 Z06. The 5.0 didn't have a chance from 0-80 it lost by right at 2 car lengths.

A 5.0 Mustang with bolt ons verses a C5 Z06 with the same bolts on does not stand a chance.

Stock for stock, same scenario.

Your friend is full of sh*t! Put him out of his misery. Line up and blow his doors off.

my 2003 Z with long tubes.vararam and a tune from ECS I can beat pre 2013 GT-500's not by much I but I still come out on top, so the 5.0 really does not stand a chance

Seems like the guy is a he said she said type of dude... Also seems like he does a bunch of bench racing in his head based on what mustang guys say on the forums... I wouldnt be worried about that car, They arent ****. You will have no problems running circles around him. He needs to stick to his car class and try and hustle some Camaro guys because the Z06 is a far more superior car when it comes to performance.
