Do you have any opinions on using the NT-01vs NT-05 for street driving in fair weather only? I know the reviews for the NT-01 are better than NT-05.

I have used the nt05r but not the standard nt05 nor the nt01 so I can't really say... comparing both tires from their website and using my judgement the nt01 would probably be a better choice if you don't drive the car as often and only in good weather... it appears to have a softer compound compared the nt05 and has a lower treadwear rating, if you are doing a lot of daily driving it may not be the best choice unless you don't mind buying a couple of sets of tires a year

You are correct, I miss-spoke. I believe the NT05R has a softer sidewall than the NT05, and the NT05R doesn't come in 295-35/18, would have to move up to 305-45/18 which I didn't want to do. I considered the NT05R but for the driving I plan to do, the 05 was a better fit. Also, the 05 has a deeper tread 7.2 vs 6.3 than the 05R and should last longer.

Bumping this thread because I am literally about to buy tires and I'm really between two setups:

NT 555 G2 Front - 275/40/17
NT 555r Rear - 305/35/18

or

NT05 275/295 (F/R)



The car is a daily driver in South Florida. I try not to drive it when the weather is bad, but rain will be inevitable. I don't need them to be amazing in the rain, I just need them not to kill me in the rain with regular (cautious) driving. The car is bone stock, but I have a Nitrous Outlet plate kit waiting to go on, so I want something that will grip good with ~500whp. Mostly spirited pulls and roll racing. What setup would you guys recommend? I know the 555r treadwear is low, but is 10k miles feasible? If there's any other tire you guys recommend for that power level, I'm all ears....I was also looking at R888's...

I wanted to run a fat Nitto on the rear of the car. Or would 295/35-18 be better for traction control purposes?

I've gotten an average of 10k out of my NT05's. In warm weather they grip very well (over 50 deg). I'm at around 390whp though, not sure how they are at 500. I like the tire life, I only drive the car 2-3k a year so in 4-5 yrs they need to be replaced due to age anyway. They are ok in the rain, my outlook on driving in the rain is the same as yours, lol.

Ended up going with NT555 G2 up front and the NT555R in the rear. They got here a day ago and they look really good, can't wait to get them on the car.

Hey c5z guy I live in Miami too. I have nittos 285 35 18 in the rear and put down 450 rwhp on mustang and 471 on dynojet dyno and they hook pretty good with traction control on. without the tracton control it will break loose almost in third. Let me know how the 555r 305's fit on the stock rims and if they rub in the back. I will probably be replacing the michelin fronts because of cracking on the sides.. they have good tread and are not that old but I have seen these michelin tires crack on several cars. I might go with bridgestone potenza re670 on the fronts for driving in the rain and the nitto 5554 305's in the back. I have had lots of corvettes in my life but I feel that the c5z is definately the sweetest ride.

Nitto tires run about 5mm narrower anyway so a 275/305 set up would be about spot on IMO for those tires.

After lots of reading, I think they will be fine. Lots of people run those sizes with other tires and like the poster above me said...the Nittos run a bit narrower. I'll definitely let you know how they do when the nitrous goes on. I'm really just hoping they can hook from a 40 in 2nd lol I'd be happy with that. Instead of the Bridgestones up front you can run NT555 G2, it's the summer tire version of the drag radial and it has a 320TW IIRC.

The C5Z is without a doubt a sweet *** ride. I raced a 2016 ATS-V tonight with intake, downpipes, and exhaust and I edged him out by half a car (or slightly more) on every 40 roll. We did two 20 rolls, but I had some terrible wheel hop in 1st and some of 2nd, so I'm still working on throttle modulation lol hopefully the new tires will cure some hop. Anyways it was nice to see my BONE STOCK 2002 z06 edge out a 2016 ATS-V with some mods

very nice. thank you for your input and the pics. I might just buy those same tires. I am looking for a little more traction. my nitto 555r in the rear are 285's so I need more rubber.

I run 555 in the front and 555r in the rear, they hook pretty dam good, from a dead stop I can break them free with any launch over 2g, but once i'm rolling they bite in every gear, maybe a little chirp when I hit 2nd gear but just a chirp, nothing more. I am at 440rwhp. I run a GTECH in my car and I can consistently get 1.8's 60ft in the street with no heat and at 40psi.

How are the side walls on the 555R's? Are they noticeably softer since they are a drag radial?

why would you run your tires at 40psi?

They actually recommend you run them at 44 psi for normal driving.
