[Z06] Starting my LS3 Swap
#22
Intermediate
I did the same swap in 2014/2015. I did not buy the new ECU and throttle assembly, so I had to buy a new LS2 throttle body on top of the many extension harnesses and the Lingenfelter reluctor wheel adaptor. I replaced the clutch also, but went with the LS7 clutch/flywheel. Also threw on Texas speed headers since the manifolds were off. Very in-depth replacement. I made a spreadsheet with all the parts I had to buy to make it work. In hindsight, I wished I had just replaced the ecu. But she is a beast! Dyno'd at 430hp, 418 tq. Pretty sure it was a mild tune. Sometime this year GM updated the hp numbers on their website. They now rate it at 495 hp, instead of the 480. I thought 480 was a little low based on my dyno.

I went with the Ls2 Silverblade throttle body - Lingenfelter reluctor convertor and the harness adapters and extensions. New rad and oil cooler.
Basically the same thing you went through.
What we we found was ...
1. Dewitts Radiator with Oil cooler is not a direct fit - needed some fab work to get in
2. Dewitts oil cooler lines do not like my Kooks Headers. Some trial and error with installation. We need to lift the car onto a rack - and then install it - once the car is broken in. A real PIA while the car is on the ground.
So tomorrow is the day she fires up for the first time. Then the waiting game until I can get her broken in and tuned. (Not till December now since I'm traveling for a couple weeks) Then the Holiday ...etc ...

About to start on my LS376/525 swap later this month. Reading this makes me wish I was already working on it.
Good work.
I didn't go with an oil cooler yet. I won't be racing it, so just street duty for me. Not sure if I'm going to need one, but will add one later if needed.

Swap was done last Friday and I'm just waiting on a tune -
Luck would have it that I'm traveling for work so it wont be until after Thanksgiving that I can get the tune done.
In the meanwhile - here's a b/W pic of the motor in the car.
My car will be tracked so an oil cooler is essential.

Mine is almost finished up
Here's a video of my ls376/525 swap that Futral Motorsports sent me last week.
Should be getting her back this week and will take additional video.

Sounds sweet - make sure you follow the proper break in procedure for the motor -
30 miles on conventional oil - drain and inspect oil
then 500 miles on 20W50 Conventional Racing oil - drain and inspect oil
Then change again for full synthetic - Only after 500 miles (10-15 hours) - No long heavy loads on the motor until then.
No synthetic oil during break in procedure.
I just finished with my 500 miles break in over the weekend - Mine goes back into the shop this week for a few small items, then the final tune by Nic D. Im hoping for 430 rwhp -
My biggest concern post swap are my tires - Cant hook up for **** so I'm shopping around for new skins.
Enjoy!

My break-in was done on the dyno. Picked up the car last night. I'm still going to baby it for a while, until I can get used to it. So far it feels quick. Lots of power all over. The larger cam took some getting use to, first time driving with a large cam in a manual car, with a light flywheel.
Here's my dyno sheet for the 525hp GMPP crate engine.
I was guessing 460whp, I was close!
Also, the car is SOOO loud. None of the exhaust was changed from my LS1 setup, but I guess with the cam and the extra displacement made it louder. My wife (and neighbors) won't be happy, but oh well!

Cool thanks. A running bud and myself did the same install last year in his 98 an auto car RPM trans .If thinking about do this go with GM motor 3 year warranty Jags summit and others sell GM motors . We were doing the install had a few problems so scene we had GM motor we got to call GM and talk to a real GM engineer ,they know stuff . Just saying if doing to do it do it right and the motors not a bad price for what you get ..

I bought my LS3 crate motor from Chapman Chevrolet in Tempe AZ - standard warranty. My friend who did the install is a retired master mechanic. Big job for one person, without separating the chasis, but he made it work. The only item was he couldn't base tune it so a third party was brought in.
Love this swap and I kick myself for not doing it back in 2014 when the original motor went.

I had a few minor set backs but finally had the final tune done last Saturday. Final numbers are 425 rwhp and 408 lbs ft trq.

Now after all this - my AC compressor just took a dive. Guess what I'm doing next week?
Also put some fresh Toyo R888 on the rear - other two for the front come in this week.
Feb 18th will be the first track day on this motor - cant wait.
Peace

Respectable Numbers
Those numbers are very close to mine, so I have no doubt that there's more room to improve after a good break in period. I added a Corsa Sport cat back since, but not sure that would make much difference. I also just added R888's a few months ago. They make a world of difference! Probably the best thing to do after swapping engines. I couldn't get any traction with the old F1's that were on there, but these just flat out hook! I get a little highway hum at speed, but it doesn't bother me, it's just noticeable. The Corsa sport system screams when you get on the gas, but it's more quite on the highway in 6th gear than my stock TI's were. No drone at all.
