Default CAGS Install - photos

I know one of the first mods many of us do is the CAGS bypass. However, I know some people might be a little nervous about messing with electrical connections on their cars. The instructions that came with my kit left a little to be desired so I figured I would take some pictures to help some of my fellow members out.

My kit didn't come with a wire tie, but it's a nice thing to have.

Step 1: Chock the front wheels. You will be lifting the back tires off the ground. Safety first.

Step 2: Jack the rear end. You could use ramps but the jack is as easy.

Step 3: Jack stand. You may want to crawl under a car that is just supported by a jack, but not me. I've had one come down on me. Since the jack wasn't going to be in my way I just left it in place.

Step 4: Locate CAGS plugs. Pretty easy to find. It's on the driver's side of the transmission and is labeled "Skip Shift"

Step 5: Diconnect CAGS.

Step 6: Install transmission plug.

Step 7: Install resistor and secure with wire tie.

Take the car off the jack and you're done. Hope this helps at least one person.

I still do not have my car yet, but that may be the most helpful thread (on a subject that everyone will likely do) that I have seen here. THANKS!

CAGS = Coughing and Gagging Syndrome. Direct result of Z-51 shortages, and having to settle for an F-55

Nah, in all seriousness, one of the most annoying "features" of the C4, C5, and now C6 Corvettes both have is the Computer Aided Gear Selection (CAGS). For most Corvette owners, it is neither a "feature" nor an Aid. CAGS is only installed on manual Corvettes. It was designed by GM to avoid the gas guzzler tax. This feature forces the driver to shift from first to fourth gear when the engine is warm and the rpm is in the lower range and the gas pedal is only slightly depressed.

While some may consider the forced shift a positive thing, because surely the first to fourth shift increases gas milage, most driver want control of what gear the transmission is in.

Fortunately, there is a simple bypass you can install in minutes that will eliminate this feature. The CAGS eliminator is a small wiring harness that plugs into the existing wiring so that the Corvette's computers will not throw error codes.

Hope that helps

By the way, excellent write up. I'm confident that even I could handle this one Perhaps one of the most insightful posts I've ever seen.

Maybe so but it does save buyers a gas guzzler tax.

Can you provide more details on how you jacked up the back. What type of jack, did you use hockey pucks, 2 jack stands?

This post prompted me to get off my butt and put mine on. Grand total of
less than thirty minutes and that includes havin to go back in the house and get the FOB just in case I set off the security. Hardest part was getting my old body to slid under the car. Yes it was jacked and safetied with jackstands. Can't wait for the "Kwiklift" system to get here.

I had heard that after instalation I may or may not get the 1-4 shift light. On my test drive it came on maybe once or twice but the improvement in getting to select the gear you want when you want it is great. Got mine from Mid-America.

Bottom line not hard to defeat a gadget that Chevy put on simply to allow the customer to avoid the gas guzzler tax. Thanks Chevy and thanks to the folks that make the fix.

Have asked this before but I'll try again.. It was my understanding that one of the 'other' features of CAGS was to block shifts that could cause a mechanical over-rev. Is this true? Does an eliminator also eliminate this feature?
