Default 1st Dealer oil change, $75, too much? & a 10k markup!

Went to get my first oil change at the dealer close to work. It ran $75, is that too much, or standard fare for the dealer experience?
It was uneventful and smooth, lots of smiling faces in the write-up area. I also asked for my MP3 and static upgrade, but they haven't rcvd the software yet.

On a side note, they had a 06 coupe in the showroom with a 10,000 dollar markup! Even in SoCal that's insane nowadays.

My dealer charges about $60 for a OLF. You did say your first, right?
A lot of dealers (mine included) give you your first as a freebee.

Sounds like I'll be changing my own oil.

6 qts of oil at retail 30, filter retail 5, they are charging 75 an hour labor and at 1/2 hour charging 35 bucks. My local place charges me 15 to change the oil I bring my own oil and filter so 50.00 I don't like jiffylube but I think they charge 20 or so if you rool your own oil and filter. I have a pela extractor that gets most if not of the oil out before I pop the bolt to drain the residual. It is a wonderful gadget. i would not use it alone to do an oil change but it does reduce the mess considerably.

When I bought my coupe, the salesman told me to bring my own Mobil 1 oil in, because the service shop charges a healthy profit on the oil. Dealership oil change is $75, $30 labor, $45 oil. At the local auto parts store, Mobil 1 synthetic oil is $4.95 per quart. It is $4.25 a quart at Sam's Club.

That's what mine ran too. If I were you I would just double check to make sure that they didn't over fill you by 1 qt. The LS1 vettes took 7 qts. Seems some dealers don't realize the LS2 only takes 6 and they automatically put in 7.

Mine was $65.00. Seems like a small price to pay on a $55,000.00 car. I can"t believe people complain. What can you get for that kind of money today? Couple of cartons of smokes.

Yep, I think its to much. Here on Long Island, the dealer I bought from wanted $80. plus tax.. Needless to say I declined. I bring my own oil and filter to my local mechanic and he only charges me 15 bucks. And for that price I get a cup of coffee and get to "over see " the job.

yeah...$75 bones...what can you do? if you have the time, certainly do it yourself, otherwise, suck it up.

by comparison, it beats the $hit out of $700 Ferrari oil changes

Overpaying for something is not a sign of wealth or intelligence.

If you have the ability to change your own oil and the tools, and workspace, it takes less time to do it yourself.

Are there any warranty issues by doing your own oil changes? This will be my first new one. I normally do my own.

Mine cost about $35. I did it at my buddy's house who has a drive on lift in his garage. My '05 has not seen the dealer since the day I drove away.

Warrenty issues no, just keep all receipts for the oil and filters. They are dated and give a good enough history.

The average self made millionair does not even buy new vechicals, only off lease vehicals, pays cash and are Fords 80% of the time. Ford Explores, Taruses, and F-150s

Learn to change your own oil, plus it gives you a chance to see another side of your vette, the underside.

Your missing the point, should have nothing to do with how much the car is if its 10,000 or a 100,000 dollar car, has to do with these cons screwing someone out of there money, you wanna give your money away go ahead ,whether im a multi millionare or not, why should i just give someone extra money???? for what?.Just like when you call in your order say at chilis or something and go pick it up,they have the nerve to put out a tip jar. What the hell is this for im going to pay someone to bag my food ,i thought this was part of there job. What a joke,i dont give my money away its too damn hard too come by

Well, the $75.00 oil change for the Vette comes with the territory. The only other options are, WalMart for $29.00 or you own garage!
