92 or 93 octane

92 or 93 octane
I know their have been many threads about octane, but this is my 2 cents worth.
I only have 700 miles on my C6, first tank of gas supplied by dealer so I don't know what octane it was, second tank of gas was 92 octane, last tank full was 93 octane Shell.
WOW ! The 93 octane really makes the engine come to life. I had some hesitation in acceleration with 92 octane but its gone with 93.
Anyone else notice a big difference between 92 and 93 ?
What about 94 octane Sunoco, is that make a big difference over 93 ?

My car responds better with the higher octane, there is a point where the higher octane rating will have no effect due to the limits of electronic advance the timing curves have.

I was not expecting any difference, but my neighbor recomended 93 octane so I tried it and now I will not go back to 92.
Have you tried 93 ?

I usually purchase at two places, At the local Sunoco I get a 94 rating. I think the local WAWA sells 93, have not been able to tell the perfomance difference.

My WaWa in South Jersey sells 92 octane.

I always use 93 octane. But my guess would be the 700 miles you put on your car may have done more to wake it up than the 1 extra octane in the fuel. I found my C6 kept getting stronger with more miles and somewhere around 3-5000 miles it really peaked.

All I have ever put in my car is 94 octane from Sunoco. On my Z I will not go any lower with the high compression. I don't know how you could feel a difference with one point unless you got the 93 from a different gas station then the 92. Sure you didn't fill up at that little cam2 pump at 110 octane..??

Depends on altitude, as well. At sea level, you're correct. At 4000', 93 octane would be a waste (but it's not available there anyway). Colorado, for example, has 89 octane premium. In Vegas we only get the same 91 octane as in CA, but the 2000' altitude makes it acceptable.

Thats why I wanted to get input from other C6 owners
Thanks !

You shouldn't be able to notice any differences between 91 and 93, probably not even with 89. The computer will adjust for the octane levels and, while there may be a slight performance loss with lower octane, it is unlikely you'd be able to feel it.
The differences you saw may be brand related or even due to dirt in the gas, but I can't believe it's due to the slight drop in octane rating.

well heres my 2 cents...in my home town we had a station switch for exxon to shell, I'm a ferrari F1 fan and shells is one of the best fuels you can buy...well so I'm told. so I started running it in my car and bike ( 2005 vmax1200 20th edition #1834 ) and I'm seeing better gas mileage about 10% in both car and bike although the bike doesn't like it till it's warmed up then she screams.
I guess the fuel is cleaner so better performance? any way I'm running it in my car when I get it saturday.

94 octane
When Shell first introduced Vpower,, in NOLa, they claimed 94 octane for a few months and then labeled the pumps 93.
Every now and then I would add a little Toluene and boost the octane to 100. From the SOTP it felt like a small difference, but noticeably.
Toluene is a component of gasoline that has a very high octane.
Other components are blended to meet the required octane.
I worked at Exxon-Mobil Chalmette Refinery for 26 years. For fun, I would go bull shoot with the blenders and watch the octane engines KNOCK.... I must have fuel in my bloodstream by now..
To any GM engineers out there,,, tell us what the parameters on the knock sensor computer are! Yea Rite On....
