My new june AUTOMOBILE magazine pages 54 and 55 states that the C7 will arrive as a 2014 model and will have a split window along with other interesting changes. Also the C7 project has already started last fall and will take 3 to 4 years of engineering and development like past corvettes. The C7 project also has plenty of funds and has the green light to be built from the goverment. This infomation comes from Tadge Juechter CORVETTE chief engineer. I guess my current 2006 vert will still look like the newest of the newest vette for another 3-4 years.

I swear, are people stupid or what that anyone would give government the power to make these decisions.

The article actually states that goverment practitioners without hesitation shifted the next generation vette fom INDEFIINITE HOLD to a FULLY FUNDED program.

novagearhead,
That is another thing that concerns me - I wonder how much of the car they will design and build. Its bad enough anyone would even think government intrusion in such matters is acceptable let alone have any authority whatever to give a green light.
Think of them less as "the government" and more of the 55% shareholder. So in essence many decisions are made by your largest shareholder - in this case it happens to be the Obama administration.

Always Red Dave,
OK, two points: (1) is that reality or propoganda and (2) even if true, governmnet has no business whatever making these decisions. That is, unless you embrace the world socialism is good philosophy.

they own the company, they can do what they want.It was stated long ago by some GM honcho or other that the Vette is going forward and the next gen would be around 2014.Also heard about the split window. That I'll have to see to believe! The forefathers of the CORVETTE did away with the split window in 64 for a reason,it obstructed the view! Some things can't be fixed with technology or camera's!I'll believe it when I see it. What was also pointed out is the Corvette is about the same size as a 911 but looks bigger so that will be addressed!

"Approved by government" most likely has everything to do with crash-worthiness and fuel consumption. Nothing to do with financial approval for machine procurement or design refinement...
As an engineer, I can tell you that this is often the issue. The talent and desire to succeed is there, but the funding and licensing process can take for - phockin' - ever.
I would suggest that you leave room for the perfectly normal and reasonable research efforts before you go spouting conspiracy theories and anti-Obama rhetoric.
Sheesh !!!

ps Obama has his issues, but this ain't one of them.

I fear the government's idea of a high performance car may be somewhat different than mine. We'll see what the C7 is when the time comes. I'll try to be optimistic.

GM was ordered, by the Auto Czar to become profitable and solvent (preferably before the November elections, so the administration could tout what a "smart investment" the bailout was).
Granted, bailing out GM had some merit, but GM could very well be in the same position they are today - less brands, less UAW benefits and less debt with standard bankruptcy alone.
Reinvesting in a halo car such as the Corvette could have been kept to a minimum to ensure GM was investing in smart and clean cars like the Volt.
As enthusiasts we would love to see a direct injection twin turbo V6 dual clutch carbon fiber wearing base model C7 w/ over 450hp and 450 ftlb all while getting 35MPG HWY.....but GM was told to invest their money elsewhere. We'll be lucky if they snag up a ZF tranny to work in the C7.
GM will do with the dual clutch what they did with bluetooth - be almost a decade behind the curve. Much of this has to do with where they felt their investments should go - all while having a now 400% funded EPA staring at them from behind the car czar.

I am not a big fan of the split window, corvettes have always been in the forefront with style and technology, so lets hope they don't go with some retro look.
