Has anyone used brake rotor hub covers to hide the rusting on the rotors? Any feedback would be appreciated... Do they fit well, do they look good???

I think they just cover the hub not the rotors. But there is a car care item to wipe on to take of rust after washing if you don't want to drive it off. Its sold by Groit. Hope this helps.

They just hide the rust on the hub, water can still drain down onto the wheel barrel and causes stains from the rust. And they don't do anything for rust in the outer vent area. It's better than nothing though.

I think a better solution is to use a zinc coating on the hub - one of the members here did an excellent DIY a while ago, I think that's worth doing and may actually be cheaper.

They look good Mars, however, I wish they were wider and came out to the edge of the cut rotor surface. That would look like a 2 piece rotor, which I'm on the fence about. I love the look of the 2 piece, but I'm not fond of the price...

I don't have them on my car but I have seen them on a C5 and a couple of C6s and I do like the look. My hubs have not rusted yet and still look pretty good.

When I ordered the covers I really wasn't sure what to expect. As long as the rotors don't rust I'm not worried about it.

Now that I'm looking at them I might try to polish the uncovered part of the rotor. That may look better.

My car wash "guy" took it upon himself to use muriatic acid on the rotors to get rid of the road grime. They looked great for about an hour and then they rusted. They actually looked better with the road grime on them... I really like the Baer eradispeed 2 piece rotors but I really don't want to dump 1200 bucks on them.

I painted mine with high temp engine enamel.

The best thing to do is to either have them zinc plated or powder-coated. Another option would be to paint them with high-heat black engine paint after removing all the rust, brake dust and dirt. I have seen all three and they all look very good. Just offering some options here.

Those look great Vet4les, how involved was the "project"? Did you have to remove the rotors to paint them? How did you mask the cut surface so as not to get paint on them?

Just had mine cleaned and painted with high temp paint under warranty. They also cleaned and painted the edge of the rotors.

a black permanent marker will work just fine also. I did mine all the way to the wear area on the rotor. Took about 5 minutes a wheel. Dont worry about getting it on the rotor surface, first time you hit the brakes, its gone. I did have to use 2 markers though.

not to go OT, but i must be doing something wrong - 3 years and 14K miles, and minimal rust -



not sure why - about the only thing i can think of is i do use a wheel cleaner, and besides the wheels and barrels, i do spray the hell out of my rotor hubs and calipers - ??? - there just might be something in the cleaner that's leaving a thin film of something... - ???

My 06 rotors still have no rust. Never used any special cleaner.

i'm not sure why some c6 rotors rust and some don't - ??? i've seen some, that look like crap, and some, like mine, are showing, almost zero rust. i'm not using a "special" cleaner, just an off-the-shelf wheel cleaner - not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. am i understanding you don't use a wheel cleaner? brake dust may have something to do with it - ???
