Default Gear Shift Stuck in Park.

I have a 2005 Automatic. The Active Handling System Traction Control warning message came on and now I can't get my Gear Shift out of Park.
I press the button on the shifter and it won't move. Any ideas on what I should do to get it into gear to get it to the shop?
Or why this is happening?

I saw something about a solenoid in the shifter console goes bad and hangs you up this way. Trip to the dealer if this is the culprit.

I was told to try this:
1. Put the vehicle in accessory power mode.
2. Apply and hold the brake until the end of Step 4.
3. Shift to NEUTRAL (N).
4. Start the engine and then shift to the drive gear
you want.
5. Have your vehicle inspected by your dealer as soon
as possible.
I hope this works for now.

Hope that's all it is. I had a crazy thing happen to me. I jumped on my car, and you know how they drop into a passing mode. Well, it took off thru second gear, but, then when it was supposed to go into 3rd it rev'd like it was searching for the gear or going into neutral. I immediately let off, and then like a dumb *** went to shift into neutral. I guess I thought the trans was screwed up. Anyway, I pushed too hard & it went into park. Oh crap! I figured I broke the whole damn thing. However, I slowed down and couldn't get it out of park. But, came to a complete stop and then put it back into gear and it ran fine. A couple of techs & guys all told me that the A6 has a safety feature that if this happens you won't wreck your trans.

Well, I drove over a 100 miles after that and tried getting on it and normal too. Hope those dudes are right. By the way, they also said the shift delay was probably caused by the solenoid reacting slowly since the transmission temp. was cold..( it was in the 30's that day)..and it was. Anyone else ever do a dumass thing like this? I think not.

GM replaced my Brake solenoid switch at $500. Then 4 days later, I still have the same issue. GM dealership is going to troublshoot further, but now I'm wondering if they are simply changing parts at my expense until they finally get it right. I feel they are going to say the brake switch was bad to being with but I also have a bad shift interlock solenoid and that needs to be replaced! Geez, what is all this going to cost?

I think 05 had this concern, and the fix was to replace the shifter. I remember reading that while back.

GM found a wire to the brake switch that had an open in it intermitantly. They secured it and I have never had the problem again. The wire was very close to the switch from what they told me.

Wonder if this was a problem with the C5s since they pretty much ran the same trans and shifter?

Does anyone have the TSB number for this issue? I believe I read somewhere on here that there is one.

recall & campaigns are at top (4 digit number with or without a following 5 char letter) , tsb's after that. probably a tsb for every part on the car, but recall/campaigns are few
you can change car year at bottom
