Well Dealers Tech confirmed today that the harmonic dampner was defective from the date of install. So far the dealer has not offed any assistance for the repair. I picked the car up today while still awaiting there decision.

Time to change. Consider going aftermarket. I'm not waving a flag for any particular brand, but there are better alternatives out there than yet another GM balancer.

The problem is that the last one was replaced under warranty. They will not use an aftermarket part for a warranty claim. Problem is the new replacement balancer had only 1400 miles on it.

I paid over $900 for MacMulkin Chevrolet to replace my harmonic balancer at 55,011 miles in May-2010 on my 2006 C6. Just paid another $1200 to have Terry Labonte Chevrolet replace the harmonic balancer bolt at 85,274 miles last month -- the car was shredding serpentine belts because the pulley was loose. The Terry Labonte techs didn't seem to think the MacMulkin work was done correctly.

I track the car a lot. But so what? The rest of the motor is working great and takes the abuse -- car dyno's exactly the same as it did in 2007 before I started tracking it.

You've convinced me. Sounds like a plan to keep having the entire front end of your car R&Red every 1400 miles.

I realize that bad news travels faster than good but threads on this subject really leaves rather a bad taste for GM, at least to me it does They have to have known of this and yet no solution or fix
If it weren't for the charismatic draw of the Corvette, I said many, many years ago that because of certain mechanical problems I personally had with their products that I would not but another GM product.
Do other brands have problems, of course but the brand I have bought since then, has proven out to me to be a smart move.

YES SIR! They certainly do. I am a rather recent return to Vettes having spent the last 30 years in mostly Jaguars, but MB and a few BMWs too.....you wouldn't believe if I started telling you about the 4.0L V8 that Jaguar (Ford had a hand in it) created.

Nice engine destroying stuff like:

Nikasil cylinder walls and the infamous "cylinder wash" leaving you unable to start on the side of the road.

Secondary PLASTIC (yes plastic) timing chain tensioners deciding to fly apart at speed detonating the engine.

$650 TBs with a 50 cent Nippo TPS that was not serviceable at the component level.

To name just a few.

How many engines do you think Jaguar (Ford) replaced on known problems?????

Later on with the X350s (which my wife still drives) - common to have $10,000 air suspension system fail BC of simple non serviceable parts. $1400 air springs per corner regularly fail!

Yes...yes it does happen to other brands.

Some mass produced vehicles have inherent problems but what differentiate's them is when the manufacturer stands behind there vehicles and parts and dose everything in there power to reduce the burden on there customers.

Bingo, give the man a cigar.
How long has this problem been prevalent ??? And still no "newer better model" available, they keep using the same one apparently, sort of sad in a way

UH...SAD ?...you're being way to kind....It's #$%^&@ !!!!! While it really isn't acceptable to let any model roll out of a showroom with these types of problems....it is downright disturbing that GM lets its flag ship hot rod roll out with these kinds of issues and then does absolutely nothing about it. B@#$%@&S !!!!!......sorry.....

I have learned that the original balancer GM part # 12635652 was superceded by
GM #12675715 in April of this year. I wonder what changes they made?

Dose the front crank seal have to be changed with the Balancer?
We always changed them on the older small blocks as the seal rode on the balancer hub.

This thread was started in 2011 and the last entry was in 2016. GM is still producing crap balancers. I have 2013 C6 with less than 30k on it and it wobbles and chirps.

The only reason I own this car is I got it for less than wholesale. It's really just another example of how poorly GM is still building cars. I have no love for this car. It's just a daily driver. I would never fork out more than I paid. I wouldn't give 30 grand for one of these that's for sure!
