Default Shifting/2009vs.2012

My friend has a 2012 6 speed manual shift and I have a 2009.His car's gear shift seems closer thru the gears than my car.Did they modify the shifting on the newer cars?

this is what is on a 2013 GS:
Rear axle, 3.42 ratio, limited slip
Steering power, speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion, variable ratio
Z16 Performance Package, performance-oriented package for the Gymkhana/Autocross enthusiast; includes extra cooling, stiffer springs and stabilizer bars, specific shock absorbers, larder brakes with 6 piston front and 4 piston rear cross-drilled rotors, specific tires and Z16-specific 6-speed manual when ordered with 6-speed manual transmission or (GU2) performance axle ration with 6-speed paddle shift automatic
Traction control, all speed
Transmission, 6-speed manual, short-throw, includes launch control, specific gearing and quicker ratios
Not sure what your 2009 has would have to do some research on it.

Actually the new trans came out in the 08 model year and it shifts smooth as silk unlike the earlier model.

Get yourself an MGW shifter. It is one of the best mods you can do for your vette. The shift throw is literally half the distance of a stock shifter.

I have to agree with the MGW recommendation. Did mine a couple weeks back, fantastic upgrade for sure.

The only difference between the 2009 and 2012 units are the 2012 units have carbon blockers on the 2nd gear.

If the 2012 shifts through the gears quicker, it must be MZ6 gearing (Grand Sport and Z51 cars have this ratio).
