That to me is too risky. All in all, its impossible to get all oil out.

I'm glad to see that someone else went with Mobil 1 instead of OEM besides me.

Changed my oil today. Used the Mobil 1 filter since the AC Delco filter isn't carried anywhere locally. 10.2 qts to fill it up.

FWIW, the drain plugs should be torqued to 18ft/lb for those that like to be precise vs just "snug it up"

Great write up!

It is also worth mentioning that you need to have the car level to get all the oil out. I drained mine with only the front raised, and then I raised the rear also and a good bit more oil came out. This was a tip I picked up from someone here on the forum.

Mine held 10.5 quarts and this put the level 1/4 way up between the add and full marks on the dipstick. I had the oil at 170 degrees and checked it a five minutes after shut off on level ground.

On a dry sump, Mobil 1 is still OEM from the factory.

If you look at the picture under the car behind the oil filter, the sump does not go all the way back level, it has a severe slope to the front just behind the drain plug. Also, when I jacked up the front, I didn't even go far enough to get a front tire off the ground, so I wasn't at a big angle, but point taken.

Are there any grease fittings that have to be greased?

Yes, rear end links have to be greased. Look at the bottom rear of the suspension inside the rear wheel, you will see it.

Two things about draining as much oil out as possible.

1) you have the front higher then the rear.

2) the car is titled to the passenger side.

The rear drain plug drains the oil pan, which as you know holds very little oil, but having the car tilted to the passenger side, away from the drain, does not drain completely the sump.

The front drain plug drains the large reservoir and the oil line running from the reservoir to the oil pump at the front of the engine using a cast in place oil line in the oil pan. Of the two flexible oil lines that are attached to the side of the oil pan on the passenger side, the rear one is the hose that runs from the reservoir to the front drain plug. Having your car higher in the front and tilted to the passenger side, means that the hose is lower the the front drain plug and will not completely drain. That hose can hold quite a bit of oil if it is positioned lower then the drain, as you are doing.

I have a 4-post lift(at 70 years old, I need to be standing up when changing my oil) and the car is level(front to rear, side to side) when I drain the oil on my Z06. After the front drain has stopped draining, I can push upwards on the rear hose about 1/4" to 3/8" and will get additional trapped oil to drain. I do this about a half dozen times(waiting about 3 minutes between pushes) to get the trapped oil from the hose to the front drain plug. With your car not being level, you will get some addtional oil out by pushing up on the hose, but not all, as you can if the car is level or with the nose of the car being lower.

I don't do it, but several people loosen the flexible oil lines at the oil pan, so they can completely drain. The front hose runs from the first stage oil pump to the top of the reservoir. It will hold some oil, but most, but not all, of the oil will drain back through the oil pump into the oil pan sump, and will drain when the rear plug is removed.

Tip: Don't over fill these with grease or else in the warmer months you might get some drippage on the barrels of your wheels.

Smart to pre-fill that filter like you did.

What does ^^^ the above ^^^ mean? What does that have to do with an oil change?

Thanks to GM'er for the instructions on how to change the oil on the dry sump system. I am going to be changing my '13 GS's oil for the first time this weekend and that's almost exactly like I planned on doing it, but it's nice to have the pictures.

I also went with the Mobil 1 oil filter, but it wasn't based on any sort of research. Just grabbed it because of the M1 oil and thought, "why not?" Glad to see I won't have to take it back and get a different one.

A question though, does anyone use one of those oil filter magnets I've seen on corvettemods? Thanks.
