Default Ordered Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZPs today

START AT POST #10 FOR INFO AFTER THEY WERE INSTALLED

For my base C6. Same tire, same size as on 2014 Stingray. Local Discount Tire store had to get on horn with their Michelin supplier to locate and order. Should be in from out of state by Friday. The OE Goodyears on front need replacing but the rears could actually go for another 30,000 miles but bye-bye to them as I REALLY want to see what these new compound hotshots are capable of. Will report back when I experience them

We eagerly await your report.

I'm not too optimistic, the tires for our cars will be the ones developed for the base C7 and therefore oriented toward smoother/quieter/MPG/life/cost. But sometimes there are nice surprises.

Oopps, I see you still have the original Goodyears. In that case, you will be impressed by the Michelins.

I had them on my base c6 and loved them.... I don't know why they haven't come out with them for wide bodies as they've sold a lot of them the last few years...

I'll be interested to read your review, too. I'm a little surprised tho re prices. I checked for Z51 suspension on my car and the prices on tirerack are less for a set than the current (and older "model") Pilot Sport PS2 ZPs.

Gotta be VERY CERTAIN you are looking at the NEW ZPs and not the old non-runflat variety Pilot Super Sports. I am paying $276 per front and $359 per rear. Installed with Road Hazard Certificates (worth their weight in GOLD at Discount) and tax I will be out the door for $1706.27. I paid more than that to reshoe my '85 back in '88 or so!!!

Nice choice. You can't go wrong with Michelin.

Default Review and after photos

OK, after 15 miles in town... 95 degrees in Phoenix. City street with a nice little S curve included. More grip on quick acceleration and better cornering. Can't tell on "road noise". My Goodyears on my little 430 hp A6 would ALWAYS break loose and start sideways on heavy roll into WOT. After 5-10 attempts, the Michelins have not broken loose yet. On hard cornering the Michelins are noticeably smoother and feel "softer" (in a good way). The Goodyears tended to start chattering sideways a little bit until I would lift throttle. Definitely will have to do some more extensive "testing" but I REALLY LIKE what I am experiencing so far.

These new Michelins should significantly reduce the performance delta between your base C6 and the base C7. Might even come close to eliminating the delta.

With no doubt whatsoever, in my opinion, they have already increased the performance of my C6, as it is driven by me, over what it was 2 years ago when both the car and the OEM Goodyears were new

I always liked Michelin Pilot sports and put then on two of my prior Zo6's. Then I bought a 2011 Z06 w/ the Zo7 package. It comes w/ the ZR1 wheels and tires- the ZP's. What a difference. They are truly one of the best tires I have had on any of my sports cars. Quiet great in the rain, and I have done a couple of track days and they were awesome. Not a cup tire but a great compromise! I love them....but i am in a warm climate. When I was in NC during November and it was 50 degrees or less they were terrible. But any sport tire is.

Being in Phoenix, the temp isn't a problem for me unless I take the car up north skiing or something. Just gotta drive more smoothly with an eye WAY ahead to anticipate events in front of ya. And, yes, I do have a truck I could take on such a trip but the Vette is WAY more fun.

I would get about 100 miles or so on them before I played too hard, I've been told by the tire manufacturers that you need to baby them until the mold release area of rubber wears evenly, or you could cause uneven initial wear, which you will feel as a slight vibration later.

Sounds like you will be there soon though

I thought so too, until I put the Bridgestone Potenza RFs on my 2011 GS. They have continued to grip VERY well in high 30 degree temps on up, even when cold at night.

I just came back from the mountains of WV a couple weeks ago, and I played with it (because I have over 20k on them now), and they still held well in the mid 40's they had at night.

For comparison, I could spin at high 50 degrees or lower with cold tires (Goodyears) on a straight line accelleration in 3rd, when I hit 4k rpms I would start spinning. The Bridgestones were a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

I'm very interested to see how these pan out. I had decided on the Super Sports to replace the current Firehawk Wide Ovals, but the ZP version is a nice bonus for a street car. Though they are almost $100/tire more than the non-run flat version.

Keep us posted...

And... will you be doing any trackdays on these?

Default 2nd day driving report

Put about 50 miles on the new Michelins today, routine driving including approx. 25 freeway miles. I can't say I notice any difference in "road noise", however, it was never an issue with me in part, probably, because I grew up in the '60s and '70s driving muscle cars with the stereo cranked and I STILL usually play my music loud.

GOOD PART--- these tires, seemingly effortlessly, are smoother and have better grip and traction than either of my C6s ever had. With my 2007 LS2 I put the Goodyear SuperCar runflat tires on it in search of more grip and traction after sliding it around for two months after purchasing it new. Wore them out while still sliding the car around and put the OEMs back on before selling the car. So someone got a 2007 with 25,000 miles on it with less than 10,000 miles on the original tires. I have put 29,000 miles on my 2011 LS3 with the OEMs and, as far as I knew, was as good as one could get while still using run flats. I was WAY wrong. The only question left to be answered for me is how they wear. Only time will tell

Bottom Line--- unless unsure (until long term testing) tire life is a factor, I would wholeheartedly recommend this upgrade
