Default Should I change my oil?

I live in New England, so I really only put at most 700 miles in my 2007 C6 per year. I bring the car to the dealer every year in the fall for an oil change before I put it in hibernation. THIS year, wife had a baby...I only put 20 miles on it...unfortunately, I don't see this situation changing anytime soon with new baby either So my question is, should I change the oil again this year with really no use since my last oil change? I winterize with stabil and the like during winter.

Change the oil when the DIC says to but no less than annually.

Time, under these circumstances, is more damaging to the engine than mileage. I suggest you go for a nice long drive, don't idle in the driveway, get the oil temp up and then change the oil and filter. Ideally do this every 90 days, but that is a lot. Every 6 months and never go more than a year.

Although with only 20 miles on it I'd probably opt to not change it unless it's still under warranty. It's not like the oil is contaminated after 20 miles.

20 miles in a year? 700 miles in a good year? Good God man, it's a car, drive it!

Yes I know Can't drive it to work for various reasons (perception, safety), so limited to the weekends. Now I don't even have the weekends now since rear facing infant seat can't sit in the passenger seat. Though with that said, I just re-read the manual...looks like there might be a chance the passenger airbags are off if it "senses" that an infant is in there...not sure what that means. I'll test the passenger airbags indicator this weekend.

Just sell it!

No point in keeping it if you aren't going to use it for it's intended purposes.

Congrats on the baby!

I realized that sounded harsh (not my intention), but what I was trying to say was not every thing or activity is appropriate (or even feasible) for every stage of life.

And not everything you give up, has to necessarily, be given up forever.

The air bag will shut off if the sensor detects weight on the seat, but the weight must exceed 60 or 75 lbs before it will allow the air bag to "arm" itself. Should be fine for a kid seat.

Don't change the oil.
Sell the car and put the money into a secure investment. In a few years when you have time to enjoy a Corvette, buy another one. You are spending a lot of $$ on insurance, etc. for a car you never drive. It would be a lot cheaper to rent a performance car on those rare occasions when you want one.

However, I have a strong feeling that the car will have to go soon anyway and the wife will find other uses for that $$$. I've been there - the 911 went when the kids came. After the kids grew up and left, the wife had to go next and now I drive whatever I want - a Corvette and a motorcycle.

BTW, the air bags disengage when you use a child's car seat. An indicator on the mirror confirms when this happens. I've done it.

I recommend you change the oil and filter. We each use our Corvette in our own way and mileage is not a measure of joy of ownership. That being said you only drove the car 20 miles in the past year. I can't imagine you're deriving much enjoyment from your Corvette. I

Congratulations on the new arrival and I recommend you change the oil and filter. We each use our Corvette in our own way and mileage is not necessarily a measure of joy of ownership. That being said as you drove the car only 20 miles in the past year I'd give thought to how much enjoyment you're truly deriving from owning your Corvette. All the best!

I would not change the oil with only 20 miles on it, a complete waste of money. If you think about it you will realize even the thought of changing the oil is foolish... Save your money and time.

Here's a thought.

With the new baby, (congrats), and the time constraints, why not just detail the car, and sell it.

Invest the money, let it grow, and buy a new 'vette when you have the time to enjoy it!

We too had a Corvette (1967 roadster/hardtop) back in the days before kids. We kept it for a while after the first daughter, but when the engine needed major work, I sold it. Made do with Camaros for the next 20 years, then bought another Corvette when they were both off to college.

I hope it works out for you to keep the 'vette and use it more in the future. If not, we hope to see you again when it works out.

BTW, the Owner Manual does say to change the oil yearly regardless of miles or OLI percentage. But a few members here, including Patman, have tried doing it every other year and had the oil analyzed; results were normal.
OTOH, the few miles you put on the car going to/from the oil change place, would be good for it.

Enjoy the baby, the happiest times of our lives were when the kids were growing up. They are now in their mid-30's and now our best friends.

You should change the oil every 12 months regardless of milage. In your case I would just wait till spring so you start all fresh come the season.
