Default What Is Considered High / Low Mileage?

Just curious what is considered high / low / average mileage for these cars, and at what point mileage becomes a major consideration in terms of the car's value.

My 2005 C6 is just about to turn over 34K, and I guess my noticing this lead me to asking your opinions.

Am I again??

I always thought <10,000 per year was low mileage, ~12,000 is normal mileage and anything 14,000+ high mileage.

You would be very low mileage in my book. I have 55,000 and have had the car since 01/2007 so I consider my car low mileage too.

But, I'm old and what the hell do I know!

You've got a 9 year old car, so you're just averaging 4,000 miles a year. That's a pretty low mileage car. I've put about 70,000 miles on my Vettes in 9 years.

This is about average for a daily driver.

Corvettes usually run below that mark.

If you take it to the dealer for a trade anything over the delivery mileage is too much.

Well, I'm sure that 186,000 mi. is a little over average for trade-in.

I would guess your 05 with 34000 is probably average miles for a Corvette.
Corvettes don't go along with the "normal" averages on miles.
Many times they are an impractical second car that just does not get driven as much.

"...at what point mileage becomes a major consideration in terms of the car's value.....My 2005 C6 is just about to turn over 34K...."

I'm no authority but with the 2014 models hitting the road I don't think 34,000 miles on a 2005 could be considered "high mileage." In fact (if my mental math is correct), that would be an average of less than 4,000 miles per year. I'd consider that extremely low mileage.

I can understand your concern but I say why worry about mileage affecting the value of your car? I've never considered resale value when buying, owning or modifying a car. I buy a car for its utility and/or for my driving enjoyment. IMO you own a high performance Corvette to use and enjoy....however that may be and however many miles per year that entails. I would never let a concern about mileage affect the way I use a car. Use and enjoy your Corvette....don't worry about mileage.

Following your noob type postings in this section as well as over at Tech/Performance section.

I dared to speculate that you have bought a used '05, it being 9 years old, starting to fathom shelf life items will cost you money and you are having second thoughts? The base price of a new '14 is tempting? So, maybe you are different, but for me, when I asked for opinion for value of something, my intention is for selling!

Maybe these will help, low mileage could be just that, but also doesn't mean the car was not abused previously! Especially if the car was modified, raced, then restored back to stock before sold.

Lots of that ^^^^ going on right now. Not saying your car was one of those but if it was - look out for looming repair cost - especially if I dare say again, that you are not a mechanic.

But if you are a mechanic or a capable Diy'er, you can take advantage of that ^^^. Troll for take offs over at the Parts For Sale Section.

Most of my Vette parts are used from forum members, the fact I joined the forum back in '10 mainly to buy used parts! Lately, loads of people are unloading their take offs from C6. Recently I scored and installed NIB DBA5K T3, HAWK brake pads and later style radio bezel for my '05 - but I am contend with my Z51 equipped 27K miles hobby project and feeding it with good used parts at a bargain is a thrill for me!

Sorry, not placing an exact "value" for your car.

I figure under 5,000 a year is low and anything over say 12,000 yearly would be high.

No, not having second thoughts at all! LOVING my Vette and bonding with it very nicely. I'm just asking questions as they occur to me, and gradually getting up to speed on Corvette culture and knowledge. I'm on a similar path as when I purchased my first Harley. It's all part of an enjoyable learning curve.

Roger that!

Something else we have in common! My learning curve started with a '66 250 Catalina two stroke!

My other current ride is a highly modified vintage '90 FZR1000 rocket.

Enjoy your retirement!

True but that doesn't mean low miles should be judged based on Corvette averages since in most cases they are assembled from a lot of parts that are common with many other brand cars (not just GM).

For a corvette, I submit that low or high mileage per year numbers might vary between the rust belt states where we drive our vettes maybe 6 months a year, and the warm weather states where corvettes may be driven nearly 12 months a year. I think here in Iowa, 6,000 miles per year is clearly above average, which I'd guess runs more like 3 to 4,000 per year, if that.......

I consider my 07 with 55k to be high mileage for a Corvette - I base this on my observation of Corvettes for sale and their respective prices - but I don't care because I plan to driver her into the ground!!!

Well if you turn over your car every couple years one may want to keep 5-7k avg. Other that don't i.e. Callaway Chris 2010 Callaway cpe with over 186K...46K per year. Now that's a driver and well made car...
