Default Buying a C6

I'm new to the C6 forum but not new to corvettes. I've been in the C4 section since 2005. Since being in that forum I've built a hell of a 84. It puts down 463hp/459tq at the crank, so I've done quite well with it and its completely tunable using a laptop.. no carb for me!

Anyways I'm "this close" to pulling the trigger on a 2008 triple black standard coupe. 6spd. It already has aftermarket air intake and the borla exhaust system. 29k on the odometer.

Price seems kinda fair at $33k.
I haven't done a lot of research as to what to look for aside from the normal stuff.

Are there any quirks with the 2008 vs the other years?
Any common or known issues?

thanks

Default What Year

Hi

I have a 2007 LS2 411 hp , but the 2008 has 430 hp and some other upgrades.

From 2008-2013 the hp remains the same 430 hp but with the NPP exhaust option you gain 6 more ponies???

Check the rear end 2:56 which if you check each gear it is quicker then the 3:15 in the auto. The manual trannys ratio i just went blank but the 2:56 rear with the new ratios is as quick as a 3:76 rear.

My first choice was an 08 but fell in love with the 07 condition and option wise.

I have the Z-51! Option and had it in my last 3 vettes.

The price is fine.

Good luck

Alan

The harmonic balancer in some cases can develop a wobble and need replacement, usually the belt will chirp when the runout gets to the point wher replacement is necessary. Oil pan gaskets have been known to develop leaks on occasion, but typically it will be a slow, weeping leak. The standard equipment spec Goodyears are almost unanimously hated, if the car has them odds are you'll hate them. Other than that, the cars are largely bulletproof, though like any modern car the electronics can lead to issues, but that's not specifically a 'vette issue. Good luck in your hunt, an '08 M6 is a good choice.

QWS:
In March 2014, I acquired my base C6 for 34,000. This is what I got:
14,000 miles.
6 speed manual.
Jetstream Blue with Titanium Interior.
Base suspension with F55 Magnetic Ride.
Dual Tops: 1 clear; 1 painted.
3LT with Navigation.
Dual mode exhaust.
Polished forged aluminum wheels aka Gumby wheels(which I like).
No deductible GMPP till Feb 2016.

Thanks for the replies so far. Its helping.
I also found another 08 with 14K for the same price. Silver tho and my 84 is silver. I like the black. However, the mileage and price may be a bargaining chip for me.

I'm gonna check the RPO codes and since I'm not familiar with what this magnetic ride is I'm gonna look into it. It does have what I would consider select a ride since it has a tour and sport mode. This may be a common bell and whistle on these cars but again since I'm new to the c6's I need to do some research on it.

Check the gas tank sensor by filling up the tank and driving it for a little bit. Make sure the gas gauge doesn't drop to zero then, back to full and then back to zero while you are driving. This problem didn't occur in my car until it hit about 80,000 miles but it's an expensive repair if using fuel additives doesn't solve the problem.

I actually just picked up an 08 in arctic white, 3LT, pretty much every option but selective ride, mine had 34k on the clock when I purchased it.
I was out the door for 32k, so both of the cars you have mentioned are pretty damn good deals.
The selective ride is simply charged particles in the shock/strut fluid that respon to the selective ride feature.
Touring provides a comfy "loose" feeling, whereas sport provides a tight sporty driving experience, I was really wanting to get the magnetic ride on mine.. but I figured I would just change out for a coilover setup at some time anyway, so I stopped worrying about it.
Either way let us know which one you end up going with!
They are fantastic cars and I love mine.

One year and 9500 miles ago I bought a 2009 Vert in Xtal red with a LS3 automatic for $32500 minus $8500 the dealer gave me for my 91 C4 vert. It had 54K miles on the meter, new tires and was in show room condition. You couldn't pry this car out of my hands with any amount of money. Talk to my widow in a few years!
