Default Top Flight license bracket fell off

I bought a top flight license plate bracket for my Z51 07 a month ago. As I was washing the car today, I noticed that it was hanging off. It is held on by double sided tape. I am surprised it was coming off. I follewed all the instructions. I went out and bought 3M tape that should do? Disappointed. Lucky I didn't lose it while I driving!

Same thing happened to me. I ended up drilling a couple of holes in the bracket half that is supposed to be attached with the double sided tape. I used a couple of screws/nuts and a backing plate on the other side of the bumper cover to secure it. For the removable part, I drilled holes that were bigger than the heads of the screws. Works like a champ now. There is another thread with several others reporting the same problem.

And how much do they charge for these? Way over priced if they don't work.

The 3m double sided tape is great but somethings are just to heavy for it. How much of it did you use. I would really be scared to my plate on with tape.

Never did trust double sided tape when it comes to anything exterior on the car.

Always find it weird when some one posts how they don't want to drill holes to mount the rear spoiler, just want to use tape. Really?

I had the stock front plate for several years, then took it off. The stock plate holder, has three points of adhesive. I was always wondering when it was going to fall off, hopefully not on the highway. The front plate is off now.

I have been ticketed for no front plate, so that's why I put it on in the first place. Now I think I'm going to just leave it off.

I have the Top Flight removable bracket on our Grand Sport and it is as solid today as it was the day I put it on 3 years and 18,000 miles ago.

Just make sure to prep the area really well when using the tape. Use denatured alcohol.

5 years and strong as steel!! It ain't no double sided tape,it's super sticky bonding adhesive. Just add a flat head screw.

That was the reason why i didn't get that plate bracket.

I got this instead.

http://thedoubleaa.com/cart/index.ph...roducts_id=140

Conveniently and securely held between the bumper and the front splitter.

I check it periodically and/or every time i wash the car and it's still on there tight.

They are way over priced. I even bought the matching plate bracket to match the color of the car.

Too much $

I used what they sent me. I even called them and they never called me back before I placed order to make sure everything was included. I even ordered an extra install package because it did not specify that it came with it.

I also bought this one. You lose the quick-detach feature of the Top Flight mount, which wasn't a big deal to me since I never used it.

I had a Top Flight bracket on my '07 coupe that started to come loose using just the provided 3M tape. I ended up using a couple of screws to make sure it stayed secure. I was really surprised when I found out it was coming loose as the 3M tape is good stuff. And no, it wasn't due to a lack of proper prep.

If you really clean the area, the 3M tape won't fail. I used dry cleaning fluid., and it has stayed on for 5 years and triple digit speeds.
