Default Seat Rebuild Kits - Multiple Price Points?

So we're all familiar with the seat rebuild kits. Some love them and say they cured their C6 seat woes, while others have a much more "meh" attitude about them.

Anywhoo, I'm gonna give it a go before I go down the path of aftermarket seats.

As I'm looking though, I see kits at $10, $29, $39, $49, $69, and $89 (I may have thrown an extra one in there but you get the point). None of these are going to break the bank, and I obviously want the very best improvement I can make to my factory 1LT seats... But I don't want to pay $89 if it's the exact same thing as the $39 version.

So, I'm hoping that some of you guys who have already been down this path might weigh in. Are there differences in the kits? Are they big differences? Any particular kit that's regarded as head and shoulders better above the others? Or perhaps one to stay away from?

Thanks in advance for any input!

My suggestion is to get the one from JW Motoring. I've used a couple from other vendors and the jute pads weren't as durable as the one JWM uses.

IMO, they are pretty much all the same. They include the jute back material, the 4 foam blocks, and some tie wraps. I purchased hog rings and the hog pliers instead to re-install the seat cusion cover.
I believe I bought mine at either West Coast Corvettes or Southern Car Parts
Each company rebuild kits looks alike to me.
No sense in spending $60.00 when $30.00 is the same kit.
It certainly helped my sagging seat boltster, and it's still as was installed 3 years ago.

Best bet is to replace the seat bottom foam with the heavy duty one. Think I paid 69 for mine.

I tried the rebuild kit and it worked for a year before I was back to where I started. Going on 3 years with the heavy duty foam seat.

One thing to watch out for is loose velcro on the foam. Mine pulled off as I was trying to readjust the seat cover. Had to reglue it with contact cement.

Instead of those Seat Cushion Repair Kits, I think I would opt to replace the complete seat bottom foam with something 'denser' than the OEM seat bottom foam.

1. Heavy duty seat bottom foam
2. Denser than stock foam for long lasting
3. One-piece
4. Universal for driver or passenger sides
5. Re-enforced bottom with wire pad and frame barrier leather strips

$69 + shipping

I did both. No matter how dense the foam is, without something covering the wire support frame the foam will eventually be cut just like a cheese slicer cuts through a block of cheese. It might take longer than OEM, but it will happen eventually. Using both a seat repair kit and dense foam you provide better support for your hindquarters, and you protect the foam for the long term without worry that wires will cut through it at some point.

this is the one I used along with the rebuild kit. The velcro running front to back is what pulled loose as I tried to seperate the velcro to reposition the cover.

Other than that it's great.

I'd love to do this to mine. It has 40k on it and you can tell the foam has gone to ****. Does the seat cover fit tight like original with no waves or wrinkles??

Yes, it does if done right.

Question. I already have restricted head room. Does this kit raise the cushion height much?

Not any that you'd notice at all. The new foam would raise the seat height to what it was when new, but you won't notice any difference from the rebuild kit.

I remember when these kits both came out several years ago. The smart way is really to use both as Corv. Ed says above. Not that it's an impossible, 1-time only job, but you may as well do it once and not wrestle the seat cover on and off twice, plus pulling the whole thing apart. If the jwmotoring kit is better because it uses a different pad that also could be a plus so it doesn't deteriorate quickly. Good luck to all.

so jwmotoring looks like a good call for the lower foam but what about the back and side bolsters? And what are you guys referring to as a seat repair kit? Somehow I'm more confused now than when I started

The repair kits are only for the seat bottom portion. Have not seen anything for the back and side bolsters besides the 2012 upgrade to the new style seats. They come with new foam and covers for all parts.

Here's 4 with the last one the "other kit" from Southern Car Parts.

As to side bolsters, backrest, there are none. If you want it re-done, go to your best, local, car seat/upholstery shop and ask them what is possible.

Thanks. I really think I want to go the centenial seat route. It just looks like the lateral support is superior all the way around.
