In the used market all cars of the same model year are far from equal. Personally, I've always been willing to pay considerably more for the right car...and that has never hurt me after the fact.

My '13 '427' C6 has been flawless! Good luck with your choice.

2005 was the first model year of a new generation of Vette, so it should not be surprising that the 2005s would probably have more than its share of problems.

HOWEVER, I had 2 05s, one manual tranny and 1 automatic and I never had a problem with either of them. Only reason I traded the first one in was because it was a manual tranny car and my wife couldn't drive a manual. So I traded it in on an automatic. My wife's backup car went away when her father passed away after I bought the manual.

What, are you saying there are no very recent threads about problems with any other year?

No. Just saying I have seen more issues with 2005 than any other model year C6. Maybe 2006-2013 owners are just lurkers? That's just what I've been reading as I've been on this site everyday since Nov 2016, so don't get all butt hurt.

There is a 2013 near me and the carfax says it was repaired for an electrical problem. Was this a common problem and an easy fix? It has also been at the dealer for sale since last march. Is this a big red flag or are Corvettes moving that slow?

Thanks.
Adding to the confusion:

I have an '05, A4 convertible. It's a "1SB" (heavily optioned, think "2LT"). I bought the car 10 months ago with a mere 12,300 miles on it. I have put 5000 miles on it since, and it is completely and totally without issue. Immediately after purchase, I had all fluids replaced, all hoses, the battery, and the tires.

This car was babied before I bought it and it's barely broken in. The car is reasonably cared-for cosmetically (I bought it to drive it, and I do), but meticulously examined for mechanical issues. The only thing that is on-deck for R&R is a sway bar bushing set, and this is due to obvious brittleness (age).

Some of the chronic, "notorious" write-ups are due to chance (read C7 A8/V4 stories), but most issues are due to usage and maintenance practices IMO. If you are shopping older cars, shop the previous owners as much as the cars - it makes an enormous difference, and far outweighs any generalizations about a specific year.

Just my $.02

Actually, a 1SB option package is the best option package, equivalent to later years 3LT.

2005 option packages were 1SX, 1SA, and 1SB.

What the heck's a 1SX?

But, back to the original post...

OP...buy the newest, lowest mileage vette your budget will cover (after due diligence, of course).

I have 229,900 miles on my '05.

Next week, I plan on having 230,000 miles on my 2005 Corvette.

Yep, it's a POS, you should avoid that year!!!!

I bought a 2007 Z06 with 45k and it had a ton of issues. I ended up trading it in for a 2009 Z06 with 25k and its been a gem! Most notable the TR6060 seems to be so much better and the engine feels so much better. The only weird thing is the engine whines like a Supercharger but I think its just the belt used. I love the car so much!

Yeah, wow, every day since Nov., 2016, a real old-timer...best to ignore the (I'm being diplomatic here) "uninformed", they don't know WTF they're talking about! You know, the "I had a brother in law that had a neighbor who has a sister who knew a guy that got a flat once on his '05, TERRIBLE car!" crowd! Give me a break!

That's great, I'd like to know more about your car, mods, stock, option level, problems...but please PM me, don't want to **** off or burst the bubble of any of the "'05 is-a-piece-of-crap" crowd!

Thanks for the link, I have a question. I definitely have the 1SB option package but I don't think I have the 6 CD changer, all I have is the slot behind the Navi screen which seems to only take one CD...thoughts? Don't know, maybe the 6 CD changer was an option within the 1 SB package.

With nav, there is only a single CD slot. The 6 CD changer does not have nav.

This is true but there was also an optional CD changer that fit into one of the rear compartments.

I have a 2013 C6. I was told by en engineer down at the Corvette Museum at the Spring Bash that the 2013 was the best made corvette because they produced the C6's for 9 years. It is the truth, mine is great. There is an electrical recall on the low beam headlights. It is well documented here on the forum.
