Did you ever wonder why the Camaro's and mustangs, BMW M3's race in the same class and the Corvettes are in the same class as the high end cars like Ferrari? BECAUSE THEY CAN"T COMPETE WITH THEM! BTW the statement that the guy made was that the LS3 is just simply better then the LS2 that's not true. TRACK DAY at Button Willow 2008, Z06 owner bragging about how his car was soooo much better then anything out there, My instructor{a WOMAN} asks to use my base model and by the time she gets done with the guy she has 30 seconds on him in one short session.
A stock 2014+ Mustang GT and an LS2 Corvette are close enough that in a drag race or an autocross or an HPDE event that it will come down more to the driver than the car. The LS2 is better than the LS3, it makes more power, there is no debate about that. Your instructor {a WOMAN - not that that matters in the least} going out a beating our a Z06 simply means she was able to out drive the guy with the Z06. I've gotten the point by from M3's and 911's and Corvettes in my little 200hp Korean car. In amateur racing environments it is all about the driver.

Ah the age old i need more power to keep up with the next guy/gals car. This is one of the dumbest topics ever. Unless you own a Veyron (or whatever the fastest stock car is) or willing to dump 10's of thousands in your current car, why obsess with whether your car is faster than the next persons car on the STREET?!?!

There's plenty of debate, especially since the LS3 has more power...

Just a typo on his part I'm assuming - the rest of his post was spot on.

I waxed his azz and when we got to the next stoplight it was pretty clear he wanted a rematch. I beat him worse that time. At the next intersection he got into the right turn lane and I was headed left and his girlfriend was laughing her butt off. Damn, I love a sleeper.

I think the electric cars are the King now. Veyron is old school.

0-60 it's hard to beat an electric. Outside of that, the electrics don't really do anything except tell everyone you're a tool.

Now the hybrids like the 918 and P1... those do. Those do a lot.

Im 21, played around with a friend who has a 2016 Mustang, we where neck n neck, until i started going into higher end of 2nd gear. then there was a red light so i had to stop. My car has been in the garage since November, he let me drive his in the mean time and i must say i enjoyed the 16 mustang gt, its a wonderful car. Does it bother me that its as Fast as my Corvette? yes, but mine is an 05, his is a 16, thats 11 years apart for the mustang to keep up with a base ls2. I bought mine for 25k, he bought his for 38k, thats a 11k price difference, but Its about having fun man, not proving who is faster, your comparing apples to oranges, owning a faster car doesn't necessarily mean you will enjoy it more. Ok, you'll prove that you are faster than a couple of mustangs in a straight line, so what? there is no real skill involved, go to a race track and you'll see why a mustang is a muscle car, and a corvette is a sports car. There are tuned hondas that will walk a Zr1.
Thats my 0.02.

I think multiple generations of drag racers would argue this point with you. You think it's so easy? Try doing it consistently with a manual trans instead of an auto.

I prefer the twisties instead of straight line although I do like to toy with ricers.

My original statement said LS3 twice, I changed the wrong one.

The the OP. Just start taking your friend out to the twisty tracks (a real road race track, not some back road where if you do mess up you hang off a cliff for 7 days before anyone finds you). Let that Corvette shine where it does have an advantage stock. Plus it's a blast.

From your posts earlier I had the impression you where street racing, and not drag racing, I didn't know which corvette you had, alot of folks like autos on this forum. Getting back to what you said yes drag racing is hard with a manual, if that's all you do, you can strap a supercharger on the ls and call it a day. There is an entire Forced Induction column dedicated to the c6 if you want power. On the other hand is you do want a faster Corvette track car, there is the Z06. My point was to enjoy what you had. The rest is up to you.

I live 15 minutes from a NHRA track, so no. Best not to "assume" if you don't know for sure.

You're only 21, so I'll cut you a break, but you've pretty much insulted every drag racer on this forum with your "takes no skill" comment. You obviously have not done enough racing to know better.

Gosh, Your very Adamant aren't you? Completely ignoring my comment and then stating that you live close to a race track when you originally never said so. Let Me repeat, you never said originally you were drag racing, one could think of many things, that is why I said it doesn't take much skill because it sounded like you were doing roll racing which require almost no effort other than keeping the car straight and shifting fast. You sound like a kindergardner "Bla....Bla...Bla You said that!!" Grow up, be specific next time, and no, I do not believe Drag Racing is EASY, I said going fast in a straight line, as in roll racing.
