Gear speed z51 vs zr1 trans
I couldn't find the speed differences between a z51 and Zr1 trans so I used a calculator and plugged the numbers
Z51 ratios, Toyo 335/30/18 tires
@ 7000rpm 53,76,110,158,222,277 RPM@70mph: 1750
Speed in each gear shifting at redline: 53-23-33-48-64-55
RPM change per shift: 2000,2200,2100,2000,1600
ZR1 ratios, MT 345/35/18 tires
@ 7000rpm 73,104,138,168,207,250 RPM@70mph: 2000
Speed in each gear shifting at redline: 73-31-34-30-39-43
RPM change per shift: 2000,1400,1400,1400,1250
@ 8000rpm 84,119,158,191,236,286
Speed in each gear shifting at redline: 84-35-39-33-45-50
RPM change per shift: 2250,2000,1500,1500,1400
As you can see the Z51 would benefit cars with up to 600hp, the taller first in the zr1 would need more power to accelerate but provide the high hp crowd with more traction off the line. It also tighter 4th, 5th, 6th gears
Z51 looks ideal for drag racing and track events that stay below 150
ZR1 looks ideal for the high speed racer looking to be quick from 50-200+

I run ZR1 tranny with 15" 28" DR and wouldnt have it any other way!
Personally see HP tuners logs @ 73 MPH in 1st. Love tall 1st and love thighter 2nd and 3rd plus 6th is a "useable" gear. I also HIGHLY recommend Tilton clutch if you got the bucks. My car revs like a liter sportbike!

the taller first should give me some chance to hook up with mt 345/18s but only time will tell

2nd gear in the z51 is pretty similar to 1st gear in the zr1. 1st gear in the z51 is nice to have from lower rolls if the road can hold it. If you race past 4th gear the zr1 does start to shine.
