Looking for that perfect sounding exhaust?
Finally, my quest for the perfect exhaust sound is over!
Let's recap the journey...
1. American Racing 1-7/8" headers, high-flow cats, and stock mufflers
Not much better than stock.
2. Above with Corsa Sports
Much better than stock, but no muscle-car sound. Slight drone.
3. Above with B&B Bullets
Sounded like a animal, but the drone was unbearable!
4. Above with GHLs
Sounded nice, but still too much drone.
5. Back to Corsa Sports
6. And then finally nailed it with Borla Stingers!
The Stingers sound awesome! Much like a Cobra Mustang, they have a tight and powerfully deep sound. The drone is not much louder than the Corsa Sports, and in reality, is less annoying because it's at a lower frequency. The Corsa's sounded good, but had a loose, raspy sound that just didn't fulfill the muscle car sound.
I may post a sound clip at a later date, but IMHO, I have not found sound clips very helpful in my search for that just right sound. There's nothing like having that particular system installed on your car.
After having all these systems installed on my car, here's the loudness/drone ratings:
1. B&B Bullets (loudest and most drone, unbearable)
2. GHLs (not too loud, but too much drone)
3. Borla Stingers (about the same loudness as GHLs, but not nearly as much drone)
4. Corsa Sport (yes, they do drone a little with headers)
5. Headers and stock mufflers (slightly louder than stock, but not impressive sounding at all)
Hope this is helpful and saves you some $$ and hassle. I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend Borla Stingers.

I have a 2008 auto with NPP, Lg Long tubes, x pipe, and no cats. Car has no drone at all. Its quiet until I lay in to it, when you floor everyone in a mile radius can hear you though. I love this exhaust system. glad you finally founf the combo you were looking for.

The perfect sound depends on the person.
For me, I gotta say NPP mufflers - no drone at cruise & serious muscle when you stand on it. I have had complements regarding the WOT sounds while at the track. Perfect in my books
I have a 2007 with American Racing Headers w/ cats. No big deal to hook up vacuum lines either.

I'd really love to hear any videos anyone has of NPP with headers. I have headers with Corsa but wanted to know how NPP compare volume wise with the bypass/flaps open? I'd love to have the split personality for keeping the wife happy.

I think Borla Stingers sound the best. Muscle car sound is perfect, but I could not stand the drone on my H/C C5 and they were too loud for me for daily driving. I'm not a huge fan of Corsa, too exotic sounding for me.
So I went with stock mufflers and cutouts on my cam only C6. I love it. Best plan, whisper quiet or raucous loud, my choice.

It apparently took some searching but I'm glad you finally found nirvana.
I like a heavy muscle car sound as well. There are many nice setups but I can assure you...the Corsa Sport exhaust behind LGM long tubes and the LPE 403 motor does the trick.

Anyone with Borla Stinger (catback) on their C6 with A6 Paddle Shift-Questions?
Anyone out their with Stingers on their C6 with A6 Auto/Paddle shift.
I have a 2007 with A6 trans.
Does the Stinger Exhaust have any fitment/installation problems with the Auto Trans A6?
How about drone?
Are you happy with the sound on the A6?
thanks for your replies.

BORLA STINGERS ROCK!!!
If you're looking for a rumbling true-American-V8 muscle car sound, it's hard to imagine anything better than Borla Stingers.
I enjoy listening to the exhaust so much, I hardly ever listen to the stereo.

Otherwise known as the resonance frequency. It is the frequency which the system generates maximum amplitude. In other words, at a specific frequency, the exhaust be louder than at other frequencies. Generally, somewhere between 1500 and 1800 RPMs. You'll know when you experience it. It drives you crazy!
