Default Snow Tires On C6 Anybody Have Them ??

A few weeks ago there was a post about snow tires and winter driving.
Does anyone know of any tire manufacturers who make snow tites for
c5-c6 Corvette. Wintertime here in PA. Snow on the ground. Im sure
some would like to still drive around on the snow covered roads.

Just spoke to Goodyear about the same thing and basically nothing in run-flat is a good snow tire. They have the Eagle F1 All Season in our sizes but your looking at +-$2000 mounted. $2000 will buy a lot of beater car and keep the winter dings off the Vette, IMO

THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING EVEN WHEN THE SNOW MELTS AWAY
ITS NOT COOL FOR THE UNDERCARRIAGE & WHEELS. iM GOING TO
USE MY KLUNKER TRUCK FOR WINTER STUFF. sOME WERE EVEN CONSIDERING CHAINS !! lol

Same here. lots of snow and that brings out the salt and sand. Even with snow tires, I'm sure the wide width of our tires would still make driving hazardous. The front tires would be the trouble. Keep her indoors and run something else. This will keep you and your Vette safe.

I think some of the drag strips are still running for another week or so.
Hard to think of the possibilities of snow when that could easily nix a racing event.

I'm in Pa. also, and plan to keep mine in the garage. Problem up here is, that as soon as we get the first snow, Pendot puts "anti skid" on the roads, and it is like little BBs. This stuff stays on the roads, until spring, so it's tough to get the Vette out, even on nice days.

The only snow tire available in our size is the pirelli sottozero. I would love to try that if I had to drive the corvette in the snow.

At least pirelli makes one for those who want or need to drive in the snow. A friend of mine is getting a widebody conversion on his o6 m6
he feels the increased footprint will certainly help in the snow but thats not the main reason he is getting it done. I think he will be running at the strip. He just got the car and wants to get some driving in without
waiting till spring.

The increased footprint will certainly help keep his car in the snow.
Unfortunately though, if you want to actually DRIVE a car in snow, you need your tires to bite down through the snow and meet the pavement below, which is exactly why snow tires are narrow.
Your friend has gotten it completely wrong.

I dont think a very good snow tire will be available since there will be very little demand for them. I have seen them on older vettes but
no c5 - c6 models.

I agree with most of what was said, in states (and I am in one of them) that use SALT, it rips up my truck let alone putting my Vette on the road. Get a truck or a beater to blast around with. Save the Vette when the salt is gone and roads are dry.... But then again, there are some nice Dry Cold days.....

Ifyour not planning to drive your vette this winter make sure you have the gas topped off. You dont want to deal with the condensation in the tank. Start it once a week and let it warm up for a while. A great time for mods if you have a heated garage. One nice thing about the cold temps you can make all kinds od power.

I bought four used 17" X 8.5" sawblades at Carlisle to use with snow tires. I calculated the offset, and it works out the same as with stock C6 rims. I had checked the tire charts, and using a snow tire with a taller aspect ratio, I can get a tire with the same revolutions per mile as the stock setup.
I won't be putting them on this year, because I still have my '05 Mustang GT with a set of snows already mounted and balanced on a second set of rims. Next year however...

Paul

PS. For driving in snow narrow is what you want, not wide.

I have driven the last three winters in Chicago with my C6 coupe

I bought blizzaks - reduced width as recommended by Tire Rack

225/45-18 front and 255/40-19 rear

no problems - go anywhere, anytime

why only use your vette part of the year?????

I had Blizzaks on my Mustangs, they were the only tire that gave me any traction.

Maybe the Chicago area DOT can call when they need a snowplow
