Right you are, it looks like a wide trans mount.

Here is a pic of the cradle that shows the hole you weld a plate over:

It might be neat to make a 2 piece sandwich plate for the cradle so the average guy could do this in his own garage instead of sending his cradle our or bringing his car to a shop. Ill look at that option too.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to start on the fabrication as soon as my C5 rear gets here.

Looking to make this swap or an 06+ swap. If I go this route, what year c5 diff can I use?

Lately I've been asked a lot about this mod and unfortunately I've lost the pics and write-up I did a few years back. I'm thinking about looking for a volunteer with a 05 C6 so that I can make a new jig and also make a write up for those DIY guys.

If anyone is interested PM me. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

Sparo keep us posted here when you do the write up... I am in Rhode Island so i cant volunteer, but would love to be able to get a bracket so i could do this mod. I am a toolmaker if i just had a blueprint or sketch with exact dimensions i could do this myself.

I'll keep you guys posted.

On a side note...and I'm not sure if it's been done but, I wonder if the side plates from a 05 diff will fit a C5 diff. I'm sure it's doable...even with a little machining. Going this route will keep the stock 05up mounting points.

Just an idea.

it does.. I did it, but it did take some complicated machining of the side covers. You also have to omit one bolt because they are not identical bolt patterns

Were you not able to drill and tap for the last bolt?

Btw, do you know how much the 05 covers are.

Sparo nice to hear from you again!

Stanger383 has become the go to guy on c5 conversions these days but you paved the way.

Hey Joe...good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Still got the 05?

That good to hear that someone stepped in the help those in the same delema. I've been out of the scene for a long time now. After having a kid and buying a house I've been more busy than than ever.

When I logged back in I was swamped with requests to make more of these bracket. Unfortunately, I lost the jig I made for the bracket. So I've been looking for ways to replicate the bracket. I felt I had to do something since there were so many guys in the same situation I was in before. Good to know someone stepped up. Do you have a link? Maybe I can post it on my original post so others will see and won't have to read through all these posts.

Congrats on the house and the kiddo!

I still have my 05, and I have 196 passes on my c5 rear....a bunch of them are 1.4 60 foot so it's definitely works.

The best way if anyone needs to reach Stanger383 is to PM him. Like you, he has helped a bunch of folks...he definitely picked up the torch.

I still have about 7 sets of brackets made up. I had them black anodized.

I just got my C5Z diff into the car and loosely fit in the cradle with Stanger383's bracket and everything seems like it's going to clear. I thought I read that some "clearancing" was needed on some of the cooling ribs but don't see anywhere that isn't clear.

Am I missing something? Do I have the bracket set up correctly?

Thanks,
Matt

I just found another old thread where it showed the grinding. I forgot that I didn't mount the spring yet. I should just go to coilovers now and save the work.
