1/2 & Mile Race Prep Tips
Hi all,
I am looking for a little advice, I would like to run my car in the upcoming Michigan Mile. I have noticed that when I get above 100 mph with the accelerator floored, the car feels a little light the steering feels so sensitive that if I sneeze it could jerk to the opposite lane, as long as the pedal is not floored above 100 or so the car feels fine, meaning that I can cruise at 110 no problem. I can imagine that if the speed goes up higher the sensitivity of the wheel and any inputs by the driver become more pronounced.
Do I need suspension mods to combat this feeling especially in a longer race than the ¼ mile? or just a new tire combo?
Current setup:
Car is a bone stock 08 LS3 - A6 except for Vararam
Front Tires are P245/40-18 – Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval run flat
Rear tires are Mickey Thompson ET Street 305/45-18 (I understand I will need to get different tires for the Michigan Mile)

Safety Car
My personal guess is you are seeing what having runflat and non-runflat on the car does to handling, especially at speed.
As far as prep, I would look at a tech inspection sheet for a high speed road course (HDPE event), to give you more things to consider.
You want your handling to be good getting to, and at full speed, and to be able to stop at the end of it.
So, anything that relates to that should be checked......

Number 1 tip: Read the rules for the event you want to run, including the tech requirements, before you do anything else.
Number 2 tip: If the requirements are beyond what you are willing to do, then forget it and move on.

Thanks All
I am in compliance with all rules for my class, it mainly boils down to me getting a new set of tires. I also need to check the date on my helmet to make sure it meets spec.
