Default LS3 Cam help.

Hey guys, Ive been looking for a while now, but I just dont know which cam kit/cam to get. Ive heard that alot of people like the G6X3 cam. I did bolt on some kooks 1 7/8th LTs, kooks 3inch catless xpipe, and ATAK borla exhaust along with a CAI. I do plan on installing it myself, as i do have my own shops/lifts. If anybody who has recently done a cam install and recommend a specific kit/vendor, I would greatly appreciate your input. 2009 Z51 c6. Thanks

We need to know your goal for a new cam? Future power adders maybe? How do you use/ how are you going to use the car? Road racing? Drag racing? Just street?

Mostly street and some strip every now and then. In the future I will be adding a supercharger.

Okay, be patient for responses. Might take a couple days for everyone who knows about cams to chime in. Good luck.

ps: Just realized you didn't mention what trans you have, A6 or M6?

The only cam that will work for your application is a 224/234 116+2 using Comp Cam's LXL lobes. I know because that's what I'm using. Forget what anyone else tells you.....close thread

I have the old blower cam out of my LS3 that's still in good shape that I will sell you. I made 754rwhp with a T-trim Vortech. It drives nice and sounds nasty at idle. Ed Curtis spec'd Lunati grind. 224/234 .610/.600 113+3. $200 shipped. If you don't get mine, a cam with similar specs will work very nice.

OP, I think you should tell everyone what your tolerance is for a car-shaking idle, bucking, and surging at low RPM.

And you might clue us in to what type blower you're planning on using. jon6.0's 224/234 cam and my 224/234 cam are just a little different. His better with a centrifugal blower. Mine better with a p/d blower.

Ive been looking at the MP2300 TVS Magnuson. But it may be later in the year till i have one in the mail. SO if I buy one of the mentioned cams, will it affect anything without a blower bolted on? What about the 2.9L whipple? Ive seen a few guys running one. Thanks for the input.

This is a very interesting thread, since I just found this article today:

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...ick-boomerang/

My view on this article is that it proved that the best overall cam was the smallest one, which had, coincidentally, 224* intake duration, which is what everyone that has commented so far seems to be running...

Could it be that a ~224 intake duration cam is what really works on these LS3 engines?

Something like this should work nicely. Sounds damn good too:

That sounds like the cam im wanting to get, the other ones seemed like it had very little P-V, and I wouldnt wanna risk anything lol. Vengeance racing has it where you can select the one you want in a kit. Any experience buying from them ? Thanks for the reply. Also, would it run funny if there wasnt any forced induction for a while??

Vengeance is a good place to go through. A blower cam in the 220-227 intake lobe range will still get you a decent power bump before adding the blower.

The cam I mentioned is under a Heartbeat Magnuson TVS2300. I like it. I've had bigger and smaller cams with TVS blowers. When it's cut up into very small pieces and analyzed all to hell and back, a camshaft is one big compromise. You give up a little of this to gain a little of that. That cam is about as good of a compromise as I can come up with. It fits me though. You may want something totally different. Spec a cam that fits exactly what you're trying to get done. A custom cam doesn't cost any more than a "shelf" cam.

And yes, a cam like this will give you a nice bump in power if you run it without a blower.
