Default Base c6, installing z06 calipers/rotors/pads, 'gotchas' ?

Hello -

I have a base c6. I purchased a set of z06 calipers, rotors, and pads. I will buy some new fluid and stainless lines as well.

I read that we have the same spindles so it's more or less a direct bolt on. Are there any 'gotchas' I should know about? Any additional hardware, brackets, shims that I may not currently have?

I have also read that my wheels will not fit over the front calipers. I plan on ordering different wheels to install at the same time, so that part should be covered.

Appreciate the advice, for anyone more familiar with this swap!

The Z06 length brake lines and wheel fitment are the only "gotcha" issues.

Post up some pics when done......and maybe even a full DIY step by step with pics if you want to help others in the future.

I may have overlooked getting the z06 length brake lines had you not said that, thank you

a full photo DIY is not out of the question, I enjoy sharing my experiences when possible. may take a couple of months to get to the job though !

I'm pretty sure you will need z06 caliper brackets. I know for sure you would if you were going from standard to Z51 rotors so most likey the same going to Z06 rotors.

Z06 calipers are fixed and don't use a bracket. They bolt right to the spindle.

Do some research on removing the brake lines, they can be a challenge to remove if over torqued/distorted from the factory.

That, plus if they are used calipers, the pins for the pads can be challenging to remove.

thanks for the tips, gents.

this is a used set. they came with the mounting bolts for the front calipers, but none for the rear. is this normal, should I be reusing the ones on my base rear calipers or am I missing some hardware?

I did this mod 8 years ago.

No, you do not need brackets. Strictly bolt on.

Yes, you will need Z06 specific brake lines.

Yes, you will need wheels with correct offset. Bought mine from Corvette Garage, a forum vendor.

I would advise using Z06 brakes on all 4 corners to avoid an over-biased front set up.

I am also using DBA 2-piece rotors.

damn your rotors look awesome, I would love a set like that. probably shave a good chunk of weight too

Do you know if I can reuse the caliper mounting bolts, from my stock rears? It looks like this used kit did not include them, but it included the fronts. I'm referring to the two main bolts that connect the caliper?

pic for reference.

Pretty sure I used the original bolts.

Good luck.

Default Brakes

Are the stock Z06 Brakes the same as the Z51 slotted setup. I'm a little confused.

No. The Z51 package uses the calipers from the base car with different caliper carriers to accommodate the larger drilled Z51 rotors.

The Z06 uses different larger fixed calipers and proprietary rotors and lines.

I hope that's right!

Anyone able to confirm, by chance? I'd hate to get mid install and hit a road block because I'm missing something.

There are many other threads out here that may help you out, if you use the advanced search function, and look in the C6 forums.

I and others have reused the bolts with no problem to date. However, I believe GM says use new bolts. I would use new bolts if racing is in your future. Hopefully you will not have trouble introducing new ZO6 length brake lines. Many older C6's (mine included) had distorted brake line connecting threads (apparently from over torqueing) that make connecting the new lines difficult. I had to use a small file to correct the distortion.

thank you for the replies. I will keep that in mind, good to know that I can potentially reuse.
