[Z06] Bled brakes

Bled brakes
[I]Just wanted to share a pic of my brake fluid from a 43k mile Z06 with no track use. I'm a believer of bleeding brakes periodically after this. It took about 2 qts. I used a motive bleeder I bought. Works excellent. They give you 2 gaskets of different thickness that attach to the brake reservoir, USE THE THICKER ONE! I learned the hard way and made a little mess. Brakes feel much stiffer. Easy project and only took about an hour.

Wow!!! With the vette being so light, and having large brakes, I wouldn't have expected to see it soo dark.
I had problems with brake fluid getting smoked on my odyssey minivan, even after stepping up to DOT4 Valvoline Synpower. I needed to go to ATE TYP200, which would last the 2yrs between flushes.
Since brake fluid is hydroscopic, it is supposed to be flushed every 24 months, mileage is NOT a factor. IF you track the car, then you should bleed them after every track event. Some will even do so after each session...

No tech 2 here. I was seeing 1200*+ rotor temps before I did the 4" cooling from the grill. Now no heat problem using Motul RBF 600. I just replaced the OEM front calipers with Wilwood Aero6 bolt-on calipers. No track events 'til after the HCI work in May.

After initial bleed, put wheels back on and go out and do about 15 hard stomps on the brakes to initiate ABS...then come back and bleed again. That will get the ABS fluid out and new fluid in...no need TechII.

Yes that would be the best idea to save money. Tech II is really expensive. I will prolly just bleed them again in the fall. It's just a street car.
