Mamo MSD on a CAI only car results
I bought this Z little over a month ago and did a baseline tune on it as soon as I got it. With tune only it made 462rwhp 440rwtq. That was inline with all of the others I've had. A couple of weeks later, I added a K&N air intake and dyno'd again. After getting it dialed in, the numbers were 481rwhp and 445rwtq.
I'd bought this Tony Mamo MSD intake for a ERL block based 454 I'm doing for one of my other cars and thought it'd be fun to see how much it picked my "stock" Z06 up. Well, the results are below. I'm very impressed with the midrange torque gain. That really caught me by surprise, I was expecting it to have a pretty good gain up top, but the torque was awesome!
I guess I'll just have to buy another one for my 454, because the one on my Z06 isn't coming back off!
On all of the graphs. Red is MSD and CAI, Blue is CAI only, and Green is stock with tune.

Looks great man. I did the same thing on my bolt on car. After it was all said and done I ended up at 540whp. Many people here will say a ported LS7 is fine...but then again lots of people also think 530whp on a cam only Z is decent...
Nice to see other people take the same approach I do with modding. Getting everything you can out of a motor before jamming a cam and heads into it.

Can you please post a pic with the RPM and other details?
Good news for me - I am in the same bolt, stock cam, aftermarket intake, MSD and headers. My target was between 505 and 525, sounds like I should be in range. Still haven't found a good dyno to compare to the base-line (shop owner died).

Is your MSD ported? I have a 2006 Z with headers, NW 102mm TB, Stage 2 heads, Calloway CAI and MSD Atomic intake manifold making 525.1rwhp with the stock cam. My MSD is not ported (out of the box).

Right - didn't catch that. I should of had mine ported, but my shop didn't mention it. They later sent me an email with a comparison of non-ported to ported and it was something like 6-7rwhp. I didn't think it was worth it to get it done. But if I ever went with a mild cam I think I would have it ported.

When I had my MSD and TB installed I picked up 18.5rwhp and a lot of torque. I definitely felt it and the sound is awesome when it sucks in the air. Much throatier sound.

Cursor on first sheet is at 6,000rpm, second sheet is 4,300rpm, third sheet is 6,200rpm, and the last sheet cursor is on 6,800rpm. I'll make a better pic showing RPM tonight when I get home.

This was mine with bolt ons and mamo msd if anyone wants the details let me know. Previous cars of mine were on this same dyno and track results backed up the numbers
My heads are fixed but not ported

I have the same CAI, 1 7/8 headers, worked over exhaust-side and slightly milled heads, stock TB, cleaned up MSD (but not "ported") and a conservative (e.g. "like stock") tune by me. I will be happy with anything around 515RWHP.

Excellent gains for an otherwise stock longblock.
Best thing with this situation is the more you mod later every upgrade will look better and better as you slowly utilize and tap into the flyy flow this manifold properly ported has to offer. If you removed your intake and let your buddy try it that has a decent heads cam package he would have seen 30+ RWHP and even more torque. Take a guy that has a set of my new really efficient MMS 265 heads and an optimal custom cam and he could see 40+ RWHP from the same manifold. The better the heads the more the OEM intake represents a restriction and the larger the gains from the swap to a ported MSD when you remove that restriction!
Point is while the gains you saw already are substantial, you haven't remotely tapped into the potential of the intake just yet....it's essentially out-flowing the rest of your combo waiting for you to slowly remove the other restrictions in the pipeline!
Let me know when you want me to get the replacement going.....LOL

Tony

Great gains for modest changes.

I still believe a MAMO MSD intake belongs on a head cam LS7.
It's just a lot of $$$ if you have a couple bolt on's. Wasting the intake's true power potential. JMO
If $$$ is no object, then have at it!!!

Since he gained ~20-30 HP with the Mamo, I think it was a good value and generally easy install vs other mods. I have a HCI with the MSd and got good power out of the big build, but just from the manifold he got 15-20% of my power for about 10% of the cost.

This mentality is what makes some bolt on cars just ehhh or if the op mentality is taken up makes them very impressive

I misread the dyno numbers. For someone like myself. The price would be 2k. Over my budget. Great gains though. Now that I read it with awake eyes. Nice.
