Default Offroad vs Catted x-pipe (sound & power)

Looking to replace my off road x-pipe with catted x-pipe to reduce the exhaust smell.

I have cam, heads, ported intake, kooks headers with offroad x-pipe, and Akra catback.

How much louder is offroad X-Pipe vs catted x-pipe?
How much extra HP does the Offroad x-pipe have over Catted x-pipe?

Maybe 2-5hp at the most difference but it'll sound better imo a lot less raspy while being a little quieter

Modern high flow cats are outstanding compared to their ancestors 20 years ago. Any quality high flow catalytic converter wont leave much on the table compared to no cats at all. 8-10rwhp max on a motor like yours is me guessing. There are other guys on these forums that can pin it down for you better than I, sir Hopefully they'll chime in.

Offroad X's do sound good though

I have the same setup as you on my Z06. I started with Kooks catted x-pipe and wanted to use the AKRA midpipe I got with the AKRA TI system. So I cut up my Kooks x-pipe to adapt the AKRA midpipe to my Kooks headers. It made the car alot louder and the fumes are bad in traffic. Not happy with my decision so first chance I get cats are going back on. You probably won't lose but 5-10 HP catted IMO.

Not sure with Kooks, but we have tested ours on a few different setups.

Given a 500 rwhp car....we would see 4-6 rwhp difference between having the cats installed and not. dB didn't seem to change much, maybe 1-2 but nothing more. It did calm some of the popping and hollow sound of the exhaust but that is what we have seen.

why would anyone remove the cats on a street car....first its illegal, second there is virtually nothing to gain except headaches at emmission time...

not every state is as strict come Cats and emissions, some don't even check. Lots of things are illegal but people still do them, its not really that big of a deal lol

Thanks to all.

Anyone has both or heard both in person and can tell us which exhaust set up is louder:

- headers, catted x-pipe, Akrapovic.
OR
- headers, offroad x-pipe, stock catback.

Can I use LG high flow cats with my kooks offroad x-pipe?
Does it require cutting and welding?

i was in the same predicament and here are my 2 cents. i have had both setups (catted and catless) on my c6 z06 with kooks headers and b&b fusion exhaust. the catted x pipe is much smoother/cleaner sounding through the gears, at deceleration, and WOT. i had originally put the catted x pipe on, then the o/r xpipe. I then decided to put back on the catted x pipe bc the sound suits the car better IMO. i am all for the loudest and thus the reason i tried the catless x pipe, but was sick of the sound after a week and the smell made the car seem like a POS....hope this helps

my 2012 Z06 comes with a catted X pipe and ZR1 mufflers. compared to my 07Z with a ZR1 X pipe and ZR1 mufflers , it has a slightly lower rumble and seems to pop more. chevy claims there is no loss in hp but my experience with cats is around a 5 HP loss. i wouldn't lose sleep over it. I still have the same exhaust smell inside the cabin under WOT.
