Default Tire pressure warning light ON. No sensors in tires

Looking to buy this 07 Z06. Has only 7k mikes but aftermarket rims. I noticed the warming light on the dash. I asked the owner and say they didn't put sensors back in new rims. Why would you NOT put them in?? So. Question is, how much are they? And I gotta dismount each tire cuz they go inside , right?

Cheapest from ebay if you trust that source.

From gmpartshouse.com:

C6 Tire Pressure Sensors

2005 – 2009

25758220 – Tire pressure sensor – $57.78 each
15234846 – Tire pressure sensor nut – $3.95 each

Total set of 4 nuts and 4 sensors $246.92

Note: The sensor comes with the washer and valve stem cap.
Setup includes: 4 sensors, 4 washers/o-rings, 4 caps and 4 nuts.

For mounting, tire shops that know what they're doing can install them by just breaking the bead on the one side of the tire and push the sidewall down to install the sensor. Don't necessarily need to remove the tire but some places do, which increases chances of damaging the sensor or wheel. Just ask around at tire shops.

Excellent. Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure what kind of money it was going to cost for replacement. 200 bucks is short money.

Some aftermarket rims are more difficult to mount sensors in than others. The OEM way is at the valve stem.

Some rims require the sensor attachment with a band around the barrel of the rim.

If you have to mount with a band - make sure you know where the sensor is. Once the tire is mounted you will need the sensors keyed to the car (easy process, I have $70 tool that works great, or just go to the dealer (may charge you) or Discount tire) and if you don't know where the sensor is - it may be very difficult to key it to the car.

Without the sensors, the car may think you have a flat and limit the power. I'm not sure if this occurs when no sensor is present (getting XX psi), but it does if you are getting 00 psi.

What brand of wheel? Seems to me that the TPMS is part of the safety system/nanny built into these cars.

TPMS also talks to other thing like BCM I believe and if your performance (driving) mode it can/will reduce power if it thinks the tire is low or flat.

Most wheels keep the factory tire stem mounting location. I just got a Brigstone Blazzak winter package from the Tire Rack, and was only $41 bucks per wheel, to include sensors. I have a Bartec programming tool for the Vette track tires, so when they arrived, just mounted them, and walked around the car with the Bartec. Since all cars 08' up, now have TMPS, good tool to have.

That's exactly what I was thinking, what other mods have been done to the car because I am betting this thing has been tuned. Not saying that this is bad, just be aware of what you are buying.

Just hung up with the owner...was some confusion in the emails. It DOES have sensors..just one sensor is flakey..says it's flat then reads hi psi. Sounds like it's just a flakey sensor that I'll need to replace. Said rims came from Mid America and liked them cause they were chrome. I still think 40k is a steal.
