Default HCI build w K501 cam and MSD intake

Update April 2018 replaced cleaned up MSD intake with MaMo ported MSD intake and replaced ARH catted x-pipe (suspected clogged) with ARH OR x-pipe, redyno at 591/520
Update October 2017 replaced Pfadt headers/x-pipe with ARH 2" headers and catted x-pipe, installed ID725 injectors, link: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1595703425
UPDATE: Base dyno run was 469/428. See post #79 for post HCI work dyno run of 602/489 on 91 octane gas

Tomorrow my 09 Z06 goes down to Cordes Performance Racing to take care of the valve guides and a little extra power so I can do 200+ MPH in the Mojave Magnum (standing start 1 1/2 mile at 2600' elevation). For 46K miles the LS7 has served me well with only a ZR1 drop-in air filter element and the Elite Engineering catch can which collects a good amount of oil on track days when run between 4-7K RPM. It has about a dozen track days, three trips to Mojave and 450+ miles over 150 MPH. On the highway cruising at 75-80 I get 27-28 MPG.

The main components of the build are:

WCCH Stage 2 porting with .030 milling and CHI bronze guides
Airraide CAI and filter
NW 102 TB
MSD intake manifold
Katech TiMo intake valves, PSI 1511 springs, Ti retainers
new OEM exhaust valves and lifters/tray
Katech K501 cam and Billet tensioner
ATI harmonic balancer
ARP head bolts and crankshaft bolt
New pushrods if needed for proper preload
AFE/Phadt 1 7/8" Tri-Y headers (coated) and catted x-pipe
B&B Fusion Extreme exhaust (model 0566)
EE 1/4" ceramic tunnel insulating plate w/DEI shielding

McCleod RXT 1000 dual-disk clutch w/billet steel flywheel
new OEM slave cylinder
remote clutch bleeder hose
DeWitts radiator with IOC, TOC and Z51 oil lines
new OEM hoses and belts
Fabberge billet motor mounts
NKG 3951 tr55 spark plugs
Injectors sent out for ultrasonic cleaning
chromoly push rods

The heads are built from CPR's inventory. They will send mine out for the next build and I will get the valve guide clearances to report back to this forum. They will do a base "before" dyno run and then dyno-tuned by NicD after. While I had it dyno'd once a few years ago in the Valley, this time will be on a different dyno. The tune will be for the 91 octane gas we have out here in the west. My guess is that if the base run is around 440 the build should be in the 560-580 rwhp range.

All the parts are on hand and the build should take 7-10 days.

While I expect pros and cons on the parts selected, they are based on my personal evaluation of all the input from this forum over the last several years. Thanks to those that have provided that input. Given how my stock Z06 has performed at Mojave, I expect this build should have enough power to achieve my target in October at the MM.

I'll also report back on the drivability of the build. I have experience with strong cammed 4 and 8 cylinder full road race cars, but his will be my first cammed street car and comments here have helped me form reasonable expectations on how it will drive with a good tune. I got local feedback today on good drivability of an LS7 torquer 110 tuned by NicD after a not so good tune (and two e-mail re-tunes) by an east coast name tuner.

I am looking forward to your results(though surely not as much as you are!). Good luck and thanks in advance for sharing with the forum!

Good luck!!!.... I'm sure ur super excited, I know I'd be

With a lot of reading I've seen that the NW 102 can be tricky to tune if the tuner doesn't know quite what they're doing.... Seeing that u have a 102 going on and Nic is gonna tune ur car he's very familiar with tuning them right?

I'm excited to hear about your results! 580rwhp is pretty realistic on 91 octane. It all depends on the dyno. Your parts list is really impressive, some great parts there. Have you considered a short travel lifter like the Comps? That's one thing I would have done different on my personal build, I would have invested the money on a proper lifter.

Thanks for your help on the build, Josh. For my overall goals, the new OEM lifters should be OK. I did consider the Cadillac high speed lifters but had some feedback that the OEM's would be fine for this build.

Outstanding, Dave !!!

CPR just pulled my short block for the rebuild, but we share a lot of common parts on our builds....damn near exact

I'll be upping the compression just a tad with new forged pistons (guessing 12:1 static) with the K501 cam, and I'm having the Walbro 450 pump installed so I can start running E85 again. I have the B&B 1 7/8 longtubes which I had coated, titanium x-pipe with no cats, and the OEM ZR1 catback. I also run the Katech LS9 clutch package with the lighter aluminum flywheel. My MSD was ported by Tony Mamo as well.

It will be cool to see a direct comparison of our two builds on the dyno, which differ solely on the E85 front and the intake porting

Where is this coming from? There's nothing to it. As long as the engine is properly calibrated for existing mods and existing TB, the 102 doesn't take any extraordinary tuning tricks. The first generation, however, did have some issues. So maybe this is just a carryover. .

For reference, i have a similar build minus the TB, 588HP on a Dynojet.

Good stuff Dave and a quick turnaround too. I really like to see what your MPH is with that setup as well.

How long your car out for Victor?

Agreed. 102s take a few minor adjustments. Not hard to tune at all. Giving Joe my car Thursday so he can have Bryan fondle it Friday.

I dropped the car off at CPR today, Joe went over all the parts with me, we discussed a couple of details of the build and then it went over to the dyno. The LS7 has just the ZR1 filter element and EE catch can, I filled it up with the local 91 I normally use.The three dyno pulls were 467-469 HP and 424-428 tq. That matches the 469 HP it got on a different Valley dyno over 4 years ago. If the work goes as planned I'll be at the HCI dyno run in a week.

Proper Prior Planning Prevents **** Poor Performance, and a quick turnaround time too. 1 week of downtime is awesome.
