With 90k miles on the engine already, I'd at minimum go through the short block. You might get lucky and just need to re-ring it, but I'd be inclined to hone it .005/.010 over and get new, forged pistons. Or take it a step further and swap it out with a re-sleeved block from ERL or RED.

Or, just swap cams and bolt the latest trendy **** on it and keep your fingers crossed.

MSD intake

Torquer 110
GM race lifters
C5R TC
TC damper
ARH 1 7/8 no cats, stock mufflers
stock TB
ATI damper balancer
Redline tuned

Car is a completely different car, very reliable, fast as hell. 565 RWHP and 528 rwtq. I am not a drag racer I do HPDE. I am not looking for 1/10ths. I am looking for torque everywhere and my car now hangs with the best of them reliably.

Almost identical to my build also. I still think the Katech torquer 110 is the best all around cam....

Prob wont be doing e85, but do have 93 readily available. That too is a nice setup, 10.5's and 130 traps...now we talking business!

As much as I'd like to start from scratch, I'm hoping to avoid any bottom end work unless its absolutely necessary. I'm not one to polish a turd & hope it shines, but planning to work from the heads up barring any surprises.

Very cool! Yeah I have to keep a sticky on the dash to remind me when I have my street tires and rims w/ Michelin PSS. Because one could get in a lot of trouble w/ street tires with this setup!! I run Toyo R888's and still spin the tires.

Here's my dyno sheet for both 91 pump and E85 overlaid. If you have 93, you're good to go using the package I put together

If you like highway pull numbers, here's 60-150

drag slip, full weight on drag radials at 1900' DA, coasting last 1100' feet as o not go faster than 10.50

That's looks like a very well put together setup, nice numbers!!

Just wanted to update...I've spoken with Tony Mamo on my plans, my overall goals, and what I personally wanted out of my car. After a thorough conversation, I've decided that he will be the author of my build...I'm not gonna prematurely throw around details, I will say this pckg has me all jacked up about turning some wrenches and getting this project off the ground & Super stoked about it! Great guy, great conversation, and I can hardly wait......I'll keep updating as things unfold. Thanks to each one of you for your input, this forum never disappoints!

Just a quick update. Parts are starting to trickle in, I'm not turning the first bolt until all parts for build are on the table, trying to curb my excitement until everything's in place! Will continue to update as things slowly, but surely, come together!

Well, sounds like you made your choice...congrats. But, I was going to say stand-alone 300 shot from a direct port and a progressive controller (or Pro-EFI) and some good tires. Should handle pretty much anything you come across on the street.

But Tony will hook you up too.

Thanks, Tony has been excellent in communicating, updating, planning, ect on this build. It's pretty exciting watching it all come together....however a small 100 shot down the road isn't out of the question!

MD is a wise man--hate for you to get the power you want just to have something worn give up the ghost ---like a simple bearing.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned and it always amazes me is gearing.
With the use you stated I would drop a rpm 3:90 diff in it first...then see if you need or want more....? I rather have 500 rwhp and the 3:90 diff than I had 550rwhp with the stock diff. easier on the drivetrain, clutch, trans and it lets this engine sing!
yes it is on the expensive side of modifying ---but it is a hell of a bang for the buck for the type of driving you posted.
Something to think about.

I tend to agree, and makes good sense to start build from the rear and work up, as I'm a big fan of gearing (and wish there were options for the Z diff) however, the biggest concern for me obviously is the addressing the heads, and with the inclination to tear it down and build only once, I chose this route. The diff is certainly something I hope to get my hands on in the future, but as we all know, budget usually dictates how soon & how much!

+1 with Oldragger...gears are great, and an old hot rodder trick for generations. For the occasional light to light blast, it's tough to beat as far as acceleration goes. The only "concern" (if you could call it that) would be traction. It's hard enough to get 1st/2nd gear to stick with 500 rwhp...adding 3.90's would make this problem worse. Sticky tires would be mandatory for any real traction.

The only down side I can see is that your overall top speed would suffer (which most people don't care about unless they're 1/2 mile or mile racing). It would take it to 192 on paper in 5th...most likely about 185-6ish in reality. Not a big deal to most.

Either way, post up what you decide to do. I'm interested in the results!

I'm not interested in 1/2 mile "events" mainly because of no events in my area, 1/4 mile easily available and can cure any other itch with roll racing...traction will def be addressed as my sport cups struggle a bit now with all nannies off...stock. I will certainly keep this post updated as build evolves and parts arrive. Tony advised me tiday that heads are approx 2 weeks out from being done...so needless to say I'm jacked!
