Default Possible purchase of 2012 Z06

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1-owner 2012 Z06 with 7,300 miles for $47,500. It has the 3LZ package, the Centennial Edition and a clean Carfax. It really is a fully loaded Z06 and is absolutely gorgeous - black on black with black wheels.

Because I've never purchased a used C6Z, I wanted to check here before I do in order to find out if there are particular items I need to look out for. Any advice will be appreciated.

Where, in Redmond, WA? I wouldn't call that an opportunity.

So, I assume the price is right based on your comment. I've searched the US for similar models but haven't found much close to the price. . .

I also keep reading about having to replace the heads but it seems to be more of an issue with earlier C6s.

All LS7s are potentially affected...keep doing your research.

Not a C6 thing...an LS7 thing. Just plan n addressing the heads...sooner rather than later would be recommended unless you have a good B2B warranty like a GMEPP. But that just postpones the inevitable...get the heads fixed.

There is a HUGE difference between this 2012 Centennial Edition and an 06 - interior, technology, performance, looks, it's better in every aspect.

To the OP, if this car has the Z07 package, buy it! Heads can be addressed for as little as $1,500.

Very good price when the car has also the Z07 Package.

As stated above, the head issue affects all years of the LS7--regardless of what GM states.

Does anyone know when GM switched to the polymer coated bearing in the LS7? Was it 2012 or 2013?

If you don't mind taking a flight to Houston there is a ZR1 for sale at $ 55k. He originally listed it at $ 80K. I know the build and the company behind the build. Clean car, lots of original miles but the build was very recent. Blade Silver.

Performance? How so? Me thinks they have the same 505hp engine.

If it has the Z07 package, sure, it might handle and/or brake a bit better, but all Z06's are basically the same in terms of performance (stock to stock).

2013 just sold for basically that, so price is in line with what it should be. Good price, not "OMG SOOO AMAZING, JUMP ON IT".

Yes heads need to be addressed. Probably tires too at that age if they are still OEM tires.

I believe it was 2012 - others have stated they think it was 2013.

This is a valid point, and this car doesn't necessarily have enough miles to determine if it will fail or not.

The price is spot on. I purchased my 2012 z06 for the same price with 9500 miles.

Based on being a low mile 1-owner, buy it.
Remember it's 'winter' now, but spring buying season's starting.
Price is really fair, to me, considering car's been loved & never abused.

As stated head 'issue' covers all MY LS7s, and not to be neglected. Cost of a new LS7 installed is enough t make a grown man cry. Be proactive.
For long term ownership a GMEPP or rebuilt heads aren't only the choices, one or the other's a must.
Good news is cost for either is probably a wash w/ a '12.

G/L, but if I were in the market for a Z06?
This would be the one. YMMV

I'm not gonna quote numbers specifiacally on your car because I just don't know , but Ive seen original stickers on 12s and 13s - 3lz with every option and they are $90k plus !!!!! I saw a 13 window sticker on a guys car for sale with every possible option ......$102k !!!! You have the opportunity to buy this car for pretty much half what it costs new and it is basically NEW !!!!! American Heritage package #4 heads $1300 , install around $750 , and you got a worry free amazing car with a little extra power from the head rework !!!!

I have not read a single report of a 2012 with a rod bearing failure, only 2013. RichieRichZ06 Abel Chev. in CA said he only worked on 2013 cars for this issue. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1592543323
