Could our C6 505Hp engine or a similar engine be used in the first year base C7vette?
Was told by a neighbor today that he read in a car magazine recently that the new C7 corvette will have a base engine of at least 500-505HP makes sense to me with all cars like camaros, mustangs, chargers, challengers ,vipers ,bimmers, benzes,ETC with OUTRAGEOUS amounts of HP why not think that the C7 will have 505HP in the base coupe and vert like the current 505HP in our C6 Z06.Remember 04 C5 Z06 405HP and 05 base C6 coupe and vert 400HP MAKES SENSE TO ME that 500HP could happen in the first year C7 coupe or vert with automatic and standard transmissions what do you guys think ????

I would not take anything you read in a car magazine too seriously. GM is guarding a lot of information about this car and there is a lot of speculation in the magazines. It helps sell the magazine.

The smaller size of the C7 and reduced weight will mean they can use a less powerful engine to get the same level of performance we have now. The better fuel econonmy will be an easy sell as well. I don't think anybody should get caught up in the crazy HP wars that are going on in the pony car world right now. They need those big motors to move those heavy cars and they are paying at the pump.

There has been alot written / talked about in the area of the C7. I heard GM is planning on adding direct injection, this alone would put HP around 480. I don't expect HP to be any lower than 475 or higher than 505.

I am hoping for more HP in the Coupe and Convertible along with the Automatic in the more powerful motors. I keep hearing about the DCT but time will tell on that. I am guessing it will still be the LS3 with Direct Injection, at least for the 1st year.

Hee, hee, humorous. I doubt they will bump the HP in the base to 505. Some people do not want that much HP - it is a niche market - IMHO - and I have a Z06. Look for big improvements in handling, interior and efficiency. Right now, the vette has more power than most can use or lay down. If I had to guess, the C7 will have a 6.3 making about the same HP as the current base coupe. They may drop the models and offer options - for instance, an LS3, LS7, or LS9. But, for what it is worth, I think the base will be LS3.

No telling what the power rating will be but a down-sized power plant is a given.
Forced induction....I hope not but as government mandates dictate what we drive (instead of free market consumer demand) the trend to FI will increase. I rather expect Government Motors will cave to FI rapidly. Hopefully, the Viper will resist and stay with naturally aspirated power.

That was said a few years ago. I think it will either be that or the 6.2 with direct injection. However, there was a pic of a new engine with some strange looking tall valve covers. Well, just portions of the valve covers were tall.

More than likely it will. But, it will not be a LS7....too many cubes. IMO their getting smaller cubed engines. We already know their capable of exceeding todays bigger cubed lower hp factory engines.
Add: emphasize "factory"

I've read that the base will have 530HP. The ZR1 will be 730HP. No more Z06's...
We'll wait and see. The C7 will be sweet though...
