C7 or ZR1
I thought I would never approach this subject. Buy a new C7 or pick up used ZR1 for the same price. About 75k..I am leaning towards the ZR1 only because of the power and not so many made of them. No I don't want to wait on the new Z06, just not sure if I like the looks of it. Maybe in a couple of years. Thanks Mike

Seems like it would depend a lot on the mileage and overall age and condition of the ZR1.. Your call. Also depends on what you want to do with the car. The C7 is new and comes with a warranty. The ZR1?
Decisions, decisions ..
Decisions, decisions ..

Car comes with warranty. Has been 1 owner car in local corvette club. Older owner that is very particular about his car. Car has 20000mi on it...About 5000 a year which isn't bad. Saw the car a year ago at a show and it was absolutely gorgeous. Plus my wife likes it...

That ZR1 would be a major temptation. The 2010 model fetched over 100K new .. and still blue books in the high 80s (for what that's worth). 20K miles is still a pretty new car. And we old geezers take good care of our toys ... my '02 zo6 is still like a new car ..
Let us know what you decide ..

If it's a DD, the ZR1 is overkill IMO (unless water cooler bragging rights at the office is your thing) and the C7 would be a better DD with more power than you can use on the street.
If you track your cars at the strip or a road course, well, that's a different story As capable as the C7 Z51 is at the track, the ZR1 is on another level.
If you collect cars, ZR1.
So...
Daily driver... C7
Track car or collectible... ZR1

The ZR1 is the baddest Corvette ever made. Go for it. Keep it a year and see where you're at then. If you don't like it, sell it and buy a new Z06. If you love it, hang onto it. Buying a car isn't a lifelong commitment. You can always sell it.

I fought the same kind of decision but once I saw the beautiful Brownstone interior in a C7 that did it for me. I went back and looked at the C6 interior and that reinforced my decision. Now where I live the extra 200 hp is nice but not sure where I can use it. Plus cops everywhere with hard to spot camo type Ford explorers etc.
What do you want to do on the highway? 150...160? Both cars will do it. Granted one will get you there a bit quicker. By the time you sneeze the C7 will be there too!! :>)
Anyway good luck on your decision. It is not a quick and easy one!

I sold my 2011 ZR1 to order my C7 Z51 coupe. I've never looked back. Interior was the tipping point to the C7. I know there's no such thing as "too much power" but if you can't safely or legally use it, then it's for show only. The supercharger was neat and sounded good. The car was easier to drive than my Z06. The C7 is much more balanced and suitable for everyday driving (and the insurance is cheaper). Collectability goes to the ZR1 because of numbers but how many buyers purchase a newer Vette to put it away for future price appreciation? 20k miles on a ZR1 is a lot and will affect value.

I'd get the ZR1 for now, especially if the price was right.

I bought my ZR1 then the C7. ZR1's are already way more rare!
I have already seen more c7's on the road than I have ever of ZR1's! I figure the C7 will be around for another 8 model years.
Nice having both. The ZR1 is the "sunday car". With the C7 a daily driver. C7 has twice the miles already!

The C7 will be here waiting for you when you are ready, in some cases better than it is now. That said ZR1 is a "special" car and a great opportunity but I have to tell you unless you track it it will only be "fun" for those short blasts, even then it makes for a short time between those $2500 sets of tires.
In my mind the deal breaker would be if you did buy the ZR1 and you were sitting at a light and a smoking hot C7 in the same color pulled up next to you....how would you really feel??
Enjoy your choice my friend either way it's a winner!!

Hmmmm let me think. Own one of around 3200 C6 ZR1's ever built that happens to be the baddest Corvette ever built to date or own one of 30k in the first model year alone that is just above average at best?

Just above average my a$$. Wow... apparently you haven't read any of the things being written about the car and you clearly haven't spent any time in one other than the drive in your buddy's car. I have one word... predictable

No heath it's just that I've spent time in a GT3, an RS, numerous Vipers including an ACR, an LP640, a Ford GT, a 550hp 2400lb. Cobra, high end hot rods, nine second drag bikes etc.
The ZR1 falls into the category of many of these top notch vehicles. You are correct in that I haven't spent any time behind the wheel but it would be hard for me to think it would be a lateral comparison with most of the above.
P.S. I enjoyed your review and am glad you got to track her.

They are super cars and the best of the best... the elite. The cheapest is way, way, WAY more than the C7. To call the C7 "just above average at best" is incorrect, shows a lack of respect for the car and a lack of appreciation and understanding of what it truly is. Do you think any of the professional reviewers would describe the C7 the way you did? The same folks who get to experience all of these amazing cars? I'd bet a month's income not one would say the C7 was "just above average at best" in the sports car world.
I have also experienced a 997 GT3 at the track and it is a better car on the track than a C7 IMO but it is a heck of a lot closer than you might think. Spitting distance (I can only imagine the 991 GT3 is that much better again). Given the C7 is less than half the price, how in the hell can anyone call the C7 "just above average at best"? The truth is, that if someone isn't biased and have actually driven the C7 without prejudice, they would not ever make that statement because it isn't true.

Wait until the New Z06 comes out,you will have the performance you desire on par
with other cars like GTR's,Vipers,Cobra's plus peace of mind knowing you have a warranty.
Also you will have that new car smell with a beautiful interior and one would have to say
perhaps the New Z06 becomes a collector car down the road.

Very fairly stated Heath, my only comeback is that the OP is comparing a ZR1 (not remotely average) vs. a C7 which from a performance perspective would pale in comparison. That is why I said average, by comparison not by it's competitors.
You are right, I need to get behind the wheel of one and spend some time to give a more accurate assessment like your review. And FYI, I am selling my 427 with 1500 miles on it if you know anyone. I need to get some ducks in a row for the NSX, Z or still possibly a Viper.
