Mobil 1 Use ONLY
#841
I own an early 2014 wet sump C7. I was given the same BS story from the two Dealerships we have available to us within a one hundred mile radius. Sorry we can't change your oil till dic says 20% or less. Let's not even talk about using mobil 1. My car does not get very many miles a year because of my work schedule, I do not use it as a work vehicle. I was so disgusted with not getting what was due me in service, I just do it myself. I don't have to worry about ***** without torque wrenches shearing off drain bolts, muddy tech's shoes on my carpets or scratched door panels because they can't pick up their feet getting in or damage to anything else in my car.
After all what are we talking about here? 4 oil changes, really only worth about $200.00. Do them yourself, when you want them done and screw GM and the dealers with their oil changes.
As much as I love this car, it will sadly be the last GM product I will ever buy. Its now been two years that this vehicle has been out and there are still dealerships out there that can't get the record straight on using MOBIL 1 in all corvettes regardless of engine designation. Even with all the Mobil 1 add flyers that come with the car and the M1 logos plastered everywhere. I'm sorry something is wrong in this day and age of computer aided information exchange if GM can't get a solid message out to the dealers in a two year period that is definite and to the point!! If it was important enough to GM it would happen much quicker than that!

And you think it will be much different with another manufacturer? I have owned a lot of different brands and used countless dealers over the years and have great and not so with everyone. If you really like the car their are ways to make the experience just as joyful by using private shops, etc. that cater to those that really care about their rides.

I had my oil changed yesterday on my 2016 Z51 and when the bill came out it stated Dext oil and I reminded them it was to be "Mobil 1 only" and the service rep said I am sure he used Mobil 1 but forgot to put it on the ticket, at which time he printed a new ticket showing Mobil 1 . Now I know they filled it with one of the bulk hoses hanging by the lift and the last time the service man told me the hose contained Mobil 1.
I have my doubts.

^^What is the code used for the oil? If it's Mobil 1 it should say: 12345885. As far as I could see, they only use Mobil 1 in quarts. (They give me the 10th quart to take home)

i wish that they would dye Mobil One in a colour like Blue or Purple that way we would have no doubt what oil it really is by simply checking the dipstick !!! Just because it says something on a piece of paper, doesn't make it true... and i would like to see GM deny warranty claims, claiming that Mobil One was not used... not likely for the first 40K miles... but the engine warranty is 100K miles... then it gets interesting!

Apparently not in Canada according to my dealer. Today I had to pay an extra $63.48 plus tax for Mobile 1. I have showed them the notice from GM U.S. and they say GM Canada is different.
I will be contacting GM Canada to get their position on the issue, assuming they have one.
If I get a response I will post it.

Too bad John but you should look into in and please post the response here, which you will get, so others in the future will know the policy.

Thanks for posting, but I do my own oil changes. That way I KNOW what oil is being used. BTW, I use Mobil 1 EP. And, I kinda like getting under the car and looking things over.

GM Canada agreed that Mobil 1 was recommended and paid for under the 5 free oil change program, and the dealer agreed to change the oil if I came back in. (Which I didn't have time to do). Disappointing that into the 4th model year, the dealers are still fighting with owners on the issue. Applewood Chev-Olds in Mississauga, Ontario, if I'm allowed to say that.

I emailed GM Canada last spring on the issue, as my dealer has used the Dexos twice, even though I showed them the bulletin.

They are not a large Corvette dealer, but they have more on their lot than any other dealer in the area, currently 7.
I sent an email to the socialmedia@gm.com address, with an marked up attachment of the bulletin explaining the situation and the need to have this memo updated in the body to include 2014-2016. The Header of the memo clearly states that, but the dealer kept falling back to this only covers 2014-2015 for Mobil 1.

Was it one of the included oil changes? If so, I can give you copy of the document and a phone number to call where they will call the dealer and inform them as well as give you a $100 gift certificate.

The document you are looking for is PIP5290B and any dealer can look it up with that number. Here is the previous version PIP5290 that covers 2014-2015. The "B" version also covers 2016.

Thanks - Yes I was specifically looking for the one that is for 2016. Is there a version of that I can print and take with me? I have a 2016 Stingray and YES I was charged an upcharge for Mobil 1. However I am in Canada - that shouldn't make any difference, but who knows.
