It's an expensive car. That's all that makes it a primarily older demographic.
I'm an outlier myself, bought my C7 at 23. If this car was 30k, the market would be flooded with dudes my age driving it. The bottom line is that not a lot of people are in a fortunate enough position to buy a corvette until they are older.

The following figures are from the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Interactive Details Book. I don't think they've been able to quite reach the younger demographic based on what I've seen in older posts about this subject.

It really is about income and those 40+ have it for the most part. Those quick hitters that get rich early in life want exotics, no one would ever think about the Corvette as an exotic like a Porsche Spider, Ferrari, etc.. There are some who can afford 'Vettes earlier ( but can't reach up to the exotic level) but from a numbers point of view they are small. I could have bought a Vette much earlier in life but wanted to ensure my family had their education needs taken care of, there was lots of rainy day money around. It is a reality that once past those life stages toys like a C7 come into play. What has changed with the C7 is the style and substance of the car, now the Porsche and BMW crowd have a serious alternative to look at that is NA made, not sure that was the case with previous editions as much.

I'm 73.
On June 23, 2015 I celebrated 50 years of Corvette ownership.
43 of those years it was my only car.
I have logged about 800,00 miles and have never
had a major problem with any of them.
1965 Rally Red Roadster (My Favorite)
1978 25th Anniversary Edition (some what rare with a red interior).
1985 Coupe (2nd favorite).
1992 Coupe
1999 Convertible
1961 Roadster
2003 50th Anniversary Convertible (still have)
2015 Z-51, LT3 Coupe.
I don't get excited about them as I did when I was younger.
Each one was a little harder to get in and out of, although the
2015 is a little easier than the 2003.
The C7 is the first Vette that I liked the coupe as much or more than
the convertible.
All were manual except the '78 and '15.
I still do my own oil changes (except I will have a couple of the free ones on the 2015).

I got my first Corvette when I was 40. I think a lot of times you see drivers 50+ simply because they are more stable with their finances than some younger people (not always the case). I also think it's tough for someone who only has the means for 1 car to purchase a Corvette. Sure, young single guys with disposbale cash or couples with no children are the exception but as they get into their late 20's or eraly 30's and decide to start a family, a Corvette makes no sense as the only car in the house.
I'm 48 now and on my 3rd Corvette. I have a 93 that my son uses and my 15. I've always wanted a Corvette my entire life but it was not until 40 that I had the means to purchase one.

I think also with the affordability - one has to learn the difference between "I can afford it" and "the check won't bounce." I guess it can all be about priorities as well. We each see them differently.
