Default Tuning question after header install

Hey everyone, finally bought my c7 a month ago and have been LOVING it! I just bought ARH long tube headers and I know I need a tune for them. Now, I am installing these myself so here is my question. Is there someone I can contact that is well known here who can send me a tune and cable to go ahead and flash the tune after the install? Also, do I NEED the tune immediately after the install? is it safe to drive normally with the long tubes without a tune? Thanks for the answers guys!

I'd contact chuck cow from Corvettes of Westchester. He has a good reputation and I believe he can tune online. I wouldn't drive it much without a tune, you don't want to lean it out.

There is a recent thread of a poster who added long tube headers, low restriction exhaust and air intake. He "was going to get a tube but didn't have time." Got a CEL, probably showing a lean mixture and the engine blew a hole in the block!

He said he didn't race and the dealer was going to have GM look at the engine but if a piston burned (can happen from a lean mixture) and seized in the cylinder it could cause a rod to break and put a hole in the block. He has not reported the GM results but I'd sure get a tune right after the install by a competent tuner!

With just LTH you will be fine until you get the tune. The LTFT will adjust and usually run rich. Gas mileage will go down until the tune.

Before people start pixxing on each other, Just call ECS and ask them your question about waiting on their tune for a bit. That should shut people up.

Once I saw an engine go boom after making a left turn, I only make right turns now.

suggest you read this:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-failure.html

if you install headers and get a tune, you probably will void the warranty.

if you install the headers and don't get a tune, you will probably get a cel.
if you ignore the cel and you get any engine damage, it probably will not be covered by warranty.

if warranty coverage is not an issue with you, no problem. if it is, proceed with caution.

And GM is denying his warranty... so if you make changes, you just might be SOL if you have a problem... wait until the warranty is almost up.

If you haven't installed them yet, just return them. You probably don't really need whatever little increase in performance or noise they provide, and you certainly don't need the tuning, CEL, voided warranty, and resale devaluation issues.

You should be fine on your car man. I have LT headers, & cold air box, mid pipe 3 inch with the back cats out of the car also Borla cat backs on the car with no tune on it other than the stock.

My car was running rich from the plugs from the car before I did this work. Now the plugs look really good plus my MPG has gone up maybe .3 mpg with this on the car.

I do not dog the car at all but will be going with a TI blower on the car this winter and get a new tune for all of that then. Robert

Then you could get a ARH Mid Length Tube, that does not require a tune

Might be better to have A shop install the headers, and then do A tune right after finishing the install
