Default Uneven brake pad wear.

Hey gang! I've got odd brake wear going on. Has anybody seen or might know what would cause a left rear brake pad to only appear to contact the outer 2/3rds of the rotor all the way around? The inner 1/3rd is rusty only on the one wheel. All the other wheels have smooth contact over the whole surface area. I'll try and post a picture if it will let me.
Thanks!!!

Shot in the dark...piston malfunction?
If under 36 months or 36,000 miles take it to the dealer and have warranty take care of it.

Good call, I don't know what else it could be but a piston issue.

Hmm, it is strange. If a piston was sticking don't see how you would have obvious uniform wear above the rusted area. That lower area looks like it was never touched.

Know it's hard to see the back side, need a mirror but if the same I would think the caliper is not positioned properly! More difficult fix than a sticky piston.

Whatever the cause definitely have the dealer look at it.

Keep us posted on what they find.

I am betting that a portion of the Brembo brake pad is missing. I recently replaced my Brembo pads and found that one of the inside front pads had a full length section ripped out.

I have seen this often on earlier model Vettes and other vehicles. My C5 brake rotors would get that way. Not sure what caused it because the pad was not damaged and was just skimming over the rust area. I would swap pads around in the caliper and the problem would go away for a while.

Just take the car to a dealer.

If a pad is failing that way, there's a good chance it will be handled under warranty at no cost to you. If it's a piston or mis-aligned caliper, it's definitely a warranty issue. Unlike a lot of systems, brake problems are pretty simple to diagnose.

I'll be doing that. Thanks! I just like to go into these situations with eyes wide open and educated.

Quick update for ya. Nothing that was a Corvette issue. It appears a previous owner had let it sit maybe after washing it and the pad had left a deposit in the inside area.
Every time the rotor would turn it would wear out the pad there. So there was no longer contact there. Cleaned it all up with CLR and some elbow grease and installed new pads and it is perfect now.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
You guys rock!
