Default Stubborn TPMS sensors won't calibrate? Here's how...

Thank you Texhawk0!!!

When you add new sensors to the car, the manual tells you just to drive for 10 min over 12 mph and they will auto-calibrate. That's true with most of them, but for some reason every now and again you will get a set that won't calibrate and it just says "service TPMS system". Even when the TPMS part # is the correct one (13581560) Many of the wheel vendors have found this out. You can then take it to the dealer and he can do it...(for a charge)

But you don't have to. Texhawk0 wrote me with this procedure, not sure where he found it, but it works!

1. start car - actual engine running - not the Acc mode
2. Select the tire pressure display in the DIC.
3. Press and hold the SEL button until the display changes and the horn beeps. It now says it's in learn mode.
4. Now drive just as it says in the manual - 10 min or so above 12 mph. - this is the new part - Chev says use a dealer tool - not necessary!
5. Suddenly, it will find all 4 sensors and show pressure
6. when you shut the car off , the "learn DIC" will show again and horn beeps.

Now you are done…so nice to find things, so you don't have to go the dealer...

A few are reporting that the sensors finally do work if you do nothing, but it took 150-200 miles....

I would imagine reprogramming them with the tool will also work.

correct, but this way requires no dealer visit and no tool.....the original person to find this out was "CM" ...special thanks to you...

I also suspect that once the car is in learn mode, the manual triggering device would reset even the "automatic" sensors, but not everybody has a trigger device.
I have a ATEQ device that will read the sensors, but I have not tried reprogramming them on the Corvette.

Here is where I found more information...

again, the only thing we have found out new from the linked post above, is you don't need any type of tool at all, just drive in learn mode! How cool is that?

Ya know what? That would sure have made swell reading in the owner's manual, had they decided to print the important stuff.

Bunch of buttheads.

I agree.
What I have found on previous cars is, if there is a way for the owner to reset the sensors without a special tool (like putting it in learn mode and letting air out of the tires), then GM put it in the manual.
If it takes a special tool that most people do not have, they do not discuss it in the manual.
In this case the sensors are supposed to re-learn automatically, but they don't always work.

It is great that there is a work-around without having the tool.

For those of us that already have a manual triggering device (which I bought because my two other cars do not have automatic re-learn sensors), it is still easier to just walk around the car and reset them instead of having to drive the car.

Good post. When I got my second set of tires Glen's posts help guide me to the domestic set of sensors. Put the new wheels on and next day drive off wo any issues.

However it is good to have a plan B.

Not sure why they had to have a tool to do this when a magnet reset C5 sensors.

Default New C7 TPMS part number

Looks like GM has a new part number that supersedes all other C7 TPMS sensors? Part number is 13598775 has anyone had any luck with the new sensors? The air fill stem also swivels on the base of the adapter.

When I installed my new tire and wheel setup the sensors programmed themselves.

I did think I might need my tips tool but I never had to take it out of my toolbox.

Default TPMS re-set using deflate method

This procedure worked on my 2011 Grand Sport:

TPMS re-set

1. Put ignition in Acc mode

2. Hold both the lock and unlock on the remote wait for the the horn to sound it will now be in the learn mode should pop up in DIC

3. start at the l/f (l/f park light will be lit)...let a bit of pressure out (10 secs) wait for horn

4. move to r/f (r/f park light wil be lit) ... let a bit of pressure out wait for horn

5. move to r/r (r/r park light wil be lit) ... let a bit of pressure out wait for horn

6. move to l/r (l/r park light wil be lit) ... let a bit of pressure out wait for horn

You will get a 2-beep horn confirmation when all 4 tires have been reset. Just make sure you get the 1-beep confirmation at each wheel before moving on to the next wheel.

The magnet method will not work on C6's but will on C5's.

No reset tool is needed. BTW, if you have a Costco or Sam's membership they will do this for free.

Put a set of A/S tires / wheels on the car today for winter use*, and figured "What the heck?" I'll do this just to avoid any possible problems registering the new sensors. I put the car into learning mode as Glen describes above, and the sensors registered before I finished backing out of the driveway.

*No, I don't need winter tires yet, but since I just bought them and had them mounted to a set of rims, I figured I'd better drive on them and make sure there weren't any issues with the tires, balance, or TPMS sensors. I'm going to drive on them for a few days to compare to the OEM summers, then I'll probably put the summer tires back on until November.

Hey, Glen, got room in your condo for a roommate? I'm not looking forward to winter.

Well I'll answer my own question. The new TPMS PN#13598775 is truly an auto learn sensor for my (JAN) 2015 C7. Replaced a new set of tires and rims with new never programed TPMS and by the time I drove up my short driveway they registered!! Did not have to put the car into learning mode, did nothing just drove the car.

My guess is that they will, but there's only one way to know for sure.
