California Duster leaves streaks
I've used a California Duster on my black '00 for a long time. Recently it has begun to leave short streak marks whenever I use it. I remember seeing posts about this a long time ago, but can't recall the content. Is the car just too dusty? Or not enough Zaino on it? Or is the Duster ready to be washed? The CA Duster website says they really don't need washing, but obviously something isn't working correctly.

If it were a new duster - I'd say set it on some newspaper - that absorbs the excess wax in it. I've never had luck with CA dusters on black cars - always streaked - new or old duster, waxed or zaino'd finish - no matter.
Maybe try a new duster. In the meantime - a quick Z6 wipe should take care of the streaking. :seeya

I know that Cal Dusters Dont cost that much But I have heard that you can wash them in a little woolite and warm water? Maybe just get a new one?

I've used the California Duster for a few years, mostly at car shows for removing light dust. The instructions that came with it said to wrap it in newspaper (as mentioned in one of the earlier posts) to help remove the excess wax they use. Even with that it still can leave streaks which will show up more on darker colors. When I do use it I try to just lightly touch the paint to keep the streaking to a minimum and follow with a soft terry cloth towel, sometimes with a little final detailer such as Z6.

Thats one of the biggest reasons I don't use mine......I cured it just like they said...but it does still leave streaks...just to many to be helpful....I now use my wifes dusters....they work really well....and guess what?????
No streaks......

In my experience, it took a while for the CCD to be COMPLETELY streak-free...especially when used on my black car. I recently purchased a new one and before using it, I soaked it in a solution of Z-7 & Dawn for about 5 minutes. Not sure if I compromised its ability to pick up dust because most of the EXCESS parrafin seemed to be gone, but the threads still reeked of the parrafin scent. It seems to work just fine on very light dust....and best of all, no streaks.

Re: California Duster leaves streaks (MidLifeCrisis)
I am not sure if this topic was covered properly or if MidLifeCrisis felt he got his answer, but here's my 2 cents worth.
The California Duster has a light coating of wax that dust will adhere to. The grade of wax is in the candle wax region and has can be softened in your cars trunk. Here's one scenerio for you to imagine:
You're all set for the show and it a gorgeous sunny day. You pack up your trunk with all the tools you need for doing a bit of quick detailing at the show: California Duster included. You wouldn't go to the show if it wasn't a hot sunny day. What can be happening is the wax on the duster is softened while in your trunk then when you go and clean the hot surface the wax melts and streaks your paint.
It has nothing to do with your the wax that is on your car.
I see some people at shows misusing the duster too. All you are supposed to do is lightly drag the tassles across the surface. NEVER press down.
(btw, I have many friends in Cali and they use the CaliDuster so it's not just a clever marketing name, LOL)
