Default Any autocrossers or road racers put C6 Z06 shocks on C5?

I have a 2001 Z06 and the handling is great but the one thing I don't like is if I am going around a corner fast and hit a bump the car skips & doesn't handle the situation very well which takes away a lot of my confidence when cornering....which...is not good.

I have heard that the 04 Z06 shocks solved this problem. The only thing is they cost twice as much as the C6 Z06 shocks. But I don't know if putting suspension parts made for the C6 into a C5 will throw off the balance of the car in any way. I know people have done it and said it works fine, but I was hoping to hear from people who actually race and may have real data to confirm the C6Z shocks work perfectly well in a C5 and will be a big improvement over my stock 01Z shocks.

Thanks!

my $0.01

Shock valving is based on vehicle weight and spring rate. The C6 Z is a lighter car with different spring rates than the C5 Z. They probably work, but they can't be ideal for the C5s.

Some of the guys with the New Z complain the shocks are too soft and are looking at putting the T1 suppension on the car, when they can get it.

You would be better off with the 04 Z shocks or some Bilstien Sports

I am one of those. They are too "soft" on both bump and rebound. I just bought a set of double Penskes for my C6Z, they will be here Tuesday. I have never liked the Bilsteins, no offense, just not for me.

Sounds like the 04Z shocks are the way to go. Too bad they keep raising the prices on them....

Not sure what the exact price is these days, but I paid $329 for mine from Gene at Fred Beans last January.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I'd still buy them at $412. I put them on my 02 Z06 and I'm very happy with them. And yes they do fix your on track problem and some others. They work well on the street. The car feels tigher. The shocks do feel a little stiffer so the ride is just a bit more harsh under certain conditions. But well worth it.

Haven't been shopping around, but the Bilstein Sport shocks are also quite popular, and last time I checked (again, last January) they were $299 (plus shipping, I'd assume).

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I run the C6Z shocks. They get the job done.
