would not repaving need to sit for 6-10 months? if not ppl like Wallyman with all his torque would rip the pavement up in the corners. not to mention making some wonderfull wash boards in the brake zones.

With modern polymer additives, asphalt paving can be made to harden in a couple of days, literally. Just had a look at Heartland Park (in Topeka, KS) where they have made some track layout changes a couple of weeks ago and they will be holding the Runoffs next week.

I "believe" they repaved Road Atlanta one or two weeks before the big March NASA-SE event this year and it did just fine.

Did they also not dig out around turn 5 and repave again do to brake zone wash boarding?

Maybe I am wrong.

FWIT Portland International Raceway is being repaved now and will be closed until next year for asphalt aging.

Off the NASA forum

I just got a call from Jim D /SCNUT. He is at the Seat Time. He spoke to Elizabeth and she said they ARE paving the ENTIRE track starting Monday.
Apparently they aren't ripping out the concrete, they are just paving *over* the entire thing.

I have not raced there in 2 years, but did they ever do anything about that slam your vette takes at the bottom of the shoot turning in left? I remember a few guys breaking stuff in there. Maybe paving in there would help.

nope, that transition from asphalt to concrete is pretty rough.

They had not... And it really needs repaving. That's my "home" turf, and I don't go to summit main because the paving is just "that bad!".

Glad to hear it's getting a make-over. Now if they just got better accomodations close by!

I sure hope that they get a different contractor than the one that did the re-paving last year on Shenandoah along the pit straight and two turns in and out. I ran an event there and was scraping asphalt off my wheels and car for 4 hours after I got back Sunday evening. It had been done about a month and was ABSOLUTELY not cured. By late sunday afternoon they had to sweep the area is was so full of asphalt marbles. It will be a big improvement once main is paved - It is about time they spent some $ keeping that place up to standards.

I was there Thursday for Seat Time. In the drivers meeeting, ElizaBoss stated that if the weather holds the track will be paved at the end of October (I think she said Oct 28 but don't quote me).

I too thought the track would need a cure period but as they have events scheduled in November, I guess this is not the case.

She also added, the concrete areas (turns 1, 5 and 6-7) would remain concrete.

Oh great, the transition from one type of surface to another. Two different grip factors.

I just called Summit Point and they are repaving this week. The lady said they were repaving the entire track. She didn't know anything about the concrete areas or how much of a drop off there will be at the edges.

See you guys there this weekend.
