Roll Bar For C5 Convertible
Looking to purchase a roll bar that complies with NCCC and/or NHRA regulations to install in my C5 convertible. Catch is, I want this to be removable, not butcher up the interior or deck lid and still allow me to race low speed and high speed autocross.
I was envisioning a 4-point roll bar plus the main loop bar that can be inserted into sockets or a base plate (that can receive bolts) that are welded into the interior. When the roll bar is out I would have a carpeted insert covering the roll bar socket or plate points.
I know, I know, be a racer or be a waxer - well, I want both.
Any ideas on who or where I can get this built?
Apprecaite your time.

Mine is from Wolfe Racecraft. I bought it 2nd hand. Bolts in. Had to drill 8 holes in the trunk floor, and replaced the rear seat studs with longer bolts. Fairly straight forward install. I'll see what pics I can find.

Do you know if it is NHRA or SCCA rated / approved? I like the install as it is closer to what I am looking for. Also, can you put the top up with the roll bar installed?

I have the Wolfe Racecraft bar as well. The installation was straight forward as shown above. It did require a modification to the waterfall and the stock seats do rub. All in all, I'm happy with the bar and actually like the look.
I did search around for a couple months and didn't find any other bolt in options. Several folks have custom designed roll bars that look nice. If you have a local fab shop, you may want to talk with them about your ideas. I've seen custom bars with bolt on extensions, bars that require mods to the cover, and even ones where the cover had to be removed.
Best of luck,
John

Check out Wolfe's website. They show the the bar meets NHRA specs. Not sure about SCCA.
The top works with the bar installed even when wrapped in padding.
Your height might be an issue with the stock seat. I'm 5'10" and although I passed the broomstick test, my head was close to the bar.
I installed a fixed back racing seat with fixed position mounting brackets. This addressed the rubbing issue, lowered me in the car well below the bar, and gave me the correct safety solution for a car with a roll bar and harness.

It is not possible to get a working convertible roof AND meet most groups' broomstick test (ie 2" between helmet and top of bar). You can get even with the helmet, but it's hard to get above it unless you have a really short torsoe.
If you do a full cage, then the main bar doesn't need to be as high for most groups. Also, I don't think NHRA requires the extra height, but many road race groups do.

Also check the tech regs for the group you wish to run with.
IIRC the SCCA Solo I does not want more then TWO bends in the main hoop.
If it passes SCCA Solo I AND the broom stick rule you should be good to go with any organization

L, you're so damn tall it doesn't make any difference on the sanctioning body, you won't pass tech. You will have to send Ms. G to tech the car, then make sure you run with the top up and tinted windows up too. Seriously, I sent you an e-mail about getting hold of Doug M in Fort Worth. His has passed NCCC tech, not as nice as Wolfe, but remember KISS. LATER
